It's funny how you become a HP junky. The 450 turbo does give you a fix.

No but with my relationship with the owner who set this up for me as a WWOC customer I'm sure it will be fine and so far they seem very helpfull and knowledgeble.

James, have you ordered from New Country before? My family has had 'bad luck' with our Audi A6 from them. Not a chance in hell my dad would get a car from them. Bad service.

It's a new P color dark (candy apple) metalic red.
Sand interior with dark wood. Very fully optioned.
New Country (The same owner as WWOC) They're building it in May should be here end of June. In real life it's much more impressive that in pics. It feels like very fast M5. Very car like. No Turbo lag. Huge brakes that really work. Quiet but nice exhaust note.

Jeff, the G-Wagon is definetly the coolest car Mercedes makes, even cooler then the SL55... My cousin had one back in the day when it was only imported through New Mexico. We used to drive through NYC and people would have no idea what it was, just that it was soo freaking cool.

Nice car!

My Gwagen will go where that Porsche only dreams about! As far as 0 to 60, who cares, its an SUV.The G has its own identity and following much like Ferraris, unlike 99% of the latest and greatest here today gone tomorrow SUV's.My G500 gets almost as much attention and interest as my 355.

Perhaps my wife should race you. It's her car and I must admit she breaks for various things as well. At my age I'm afraid that the sunscreen and pain killer's I'd need would weigh me down. (Check out the article about the Journalists who rode along with Vasser on the Baha 2000 in Car and Driver) As much as I like Maser (I have a new FI coupe) I doubt the Kabang will keep up with this thing. If you drive one you may change your mind. It's pretty wild and in the metal the interior is great and in deep red metallic it doesn't look too bad either.

I don't know Jim - I "brake" for shoe stores!

Not impressed with the Porsche SUV - I'd rather drive the Maserati one. I think the x-5 have been recalled recently.....if I remember hearing correctly

Hi Guys/Gals,

You really have to see the car in person as the photos don't justify and you will be more impressed although I could not afford a brand new one after the new tax scheme imposed onto the luxury cars (talking about 30-40% more in the retail price)

Will,

That's exactly what my parents did, they got me a 160hp 1.9t Volvo- which was perfect for me to get used to. We just got rid of it actually. Really nice car, but once I hit 20k+ miles, it started falling apart.

I believe the C60 is coming out (the C70 based off the S60 so its less expensive) in the next year, thats a really nice 2 door coupe for her.

James,

I'm assuming she shares the same passion as you do for cars? I wish my dad liked cars half as much as me.

If she likes cars, why get a truck? Let her drive the Dusenberg to school!

Jim: I'd buy her a really underpowered Volvo. The idea of an inexperienced driver handling a truck, let alone a superpowered one is rather scary (for her and others), don't you think?

James,

She would definetly kill me for giving you that advice but its true, student/kid drivers are just way to dangerous. Chances are you could get her a car that is just as cool as the Porsche and she wouldn't know the difference, i.e. a Lexus IS300 or Audi A4...

If you got her a nice beater for a few months, she'd appreciate the Porsche sooo much more. Hows that saying go again; "Once you get used to a luxury, it becomes a necessity"? You can't really go up from a Porsche truck :-).

James,

I'm in highschool and see all the new drivers and by far, the girls are always the worst and most dangerous- chances are they will crash their first car, even if its just backing up into another car, and the extra power of the Porsche won't help.

Yeah, I'm still a kid- I'm a few days away from 18 and I drive a 3.0L BMW Z3 everyday- which I admit is pretty excessive for someone my age- but its a helluva lot of fun. I am the only one of my friends who hasn't got into an accident that they have caused. (I was hit by a snow plow at a stop sign a few months ago- which was covered by the plow).

I have a girl-friend who drove an ML320 (a decent comparison to the Porsche considering size and such)- she ended up crashed it- which was expected, but she was also hit 4-5 times in the student parking lot by other new drivers. She now has a CLK430 AMG Sport :-)

I've lucked out. I'd say a good 50 percent of the cars in the lot are hit at some point or another becuase of bad inexperienced driving. I love driving my little BMW, but I started on a Volvo S40- something safe that isn't too quick which is pretty replacable. Maybe you should get her a used Jeep for a couple months- so she can learn to drive well...

i was a cayenne skeptic. then i saw one in the flesh when i went skiing 2 weeks ago, and it is much more impressive than i thought, and it looks pretty good, as far as things go in suv world. the performance figures for the base model, blow the doors off the ml55 and x5 4.6, so the turbo model must just be a rocket that happens to have a 4x4's ability.
i need 7 seats, and i don't like vans, so i usually end up with a mercedes station wagon, but if this thing had an extra 2 seats in back, i would strongly consider it.......

True James, but my point is this:

The 911 chassis/body/susp. was created for one specific car - the 911. As a result, the cost of the design is spread heavily across the board of 911's only. Consequently, the price of a 911 is relatively high.

The Cayenne chassis/body/susp. was created for two specific vehicles, one of which would be (sort-of) mass-produced. This allowed the cost of the development to be spread more thinly across the Porsche and VW line. Conseqently, the price of the vehicle does not reflect design costs as much as a 911, or an Enzo, does.

I still like that Lambo desert vehicle. But, truth be told, i am not enamored of trucks as "sports vehicles," "luxury passenger" coveyances or something in between. Nonetheless, i think that the G wagen is the real deal (in an elitest kind of way), the ML series MB's are are bad joke, and that if you were going to buy the Tabasco from Porsche, you'd be an idiot not to buy the Turbo. I mean, its not about practicality, utility or anything other than outrageous performance in sheep's clothing. Why settle for one without the juice, unless its just to have the badge? Otherwise, if its really about "truck," i'm sure there are many other vehicles that would serve the purpose, without the Porsche logo.

They're quite different esp. the Turbo. This platform will likely also be the basis for the Lambo V10 SUV. As Karl Marx said: "In the end there will be one Company and then the government will take it over."

The reason why the Cayenne is as cheap as a 911 is because it is a VW with Porsche badges.

The Cayanne Turbo is much faster. Top speed 165+.
The ride height is adjustable from 5.5 inches to 11.5 inches. The price difference is about 11M between a fully loaded S and a turbo. To answer Des's question my wife's getting one I'll tell what she thinks.

Vernon, if at all possible, can you attempt to take the place of a 40+ mother of 2 children (ages 10 & 13) and give a review of the Cayenne from that point of view...? i'm DESperately trying to convince my Aunt to get it once her lease is up on the crappy Navigator she's got... Thanks... :-)

The Cayenne (or as it is not so affectionately called on the Porsche site: the Paprika) is just plain ugly. What is the point of this vehicle? Porsche should just stick to sport/GT cars and racing. It will only grow on me like mold :-)

But the MB is the ultimate off-road luxury truck- better then the Hummer, and chances are, when you need the truck- its inclement weather.

Then and again, its your money. :-)

I think the Porsche'll definetly grow on all of us- what I don't get is how the Cayenne can be the same price as the Carrera and use the same materials- you figure they use twice the leather for the interior, same engine and just as much on research for the frame seeing the 996 is basically the same as the 993 and the rest of the Carrera chain.

I am definetly considering one. Probably not the Turbo, although it is awesome, I can't justify $100k for a truck.
The G wagon is a tub, it is an old outdated Brinks truck with an S class interior. The Cayenne's competition is the BMW and the ML 55.
Both Porsche's smoke the BMW and the MB!

I drove the Cayenne S and Cayenne Twin Turbo today.

The cars looks grow on you after a while, the interior is great and they both perform fantastic.

For a truck it is pretty cool!
