Triple dittos on the bicycle helmets. Now we are seeing helmets in downhill skiing as well spreading from the downhill racers to every boob on the slopes.

What's next? I predict mandatory helmets for cars within a few years, followed by seatbelts for toilets. Remember when they stopped making convertibles?

The trouble with all our regulators and legislators is all they want to do is regulate and legislate. Can you imagine a State Session where they announced "Well we figured we already have lots of laws - so we decided to focus on looking for ways to save money instead of passing even more!"

We should adopt a second national pledge, right after the one we have now that says...

" I acknowledge that life is a fatal disease. You only get out of it what you put into it. If you protect yourself from every possible eventuality you will spend your days in a bath of warm porridge and die without ever having lived."

the reason bike helmets became law (in some states) is because our over-litigious society was suing everybody from the bike manufacturer, owner of the sidewalk, the city in which the accident may have happened, the weatherman, etc ad nauseum, every time little johnny fell over. i have to agree it is ridiculous to make it a law, but equally crazy that our fellow citizens were trying to find somebody to blame for their own ineptitude.
btw, now that you got me started.....suing as a hobby has been a very detrimental evolution in our society. but all those lawyers have to make their money somehow, and this is what happens.

Lawrence, I agree on those rediculuous bicycle helmets. Why is it that Americans rode bicycles for 150 years without having to wear those stupid looking helmets? Seven year old kids by the millions learned to ride bicycles without wearing those stupid helmets. Each day, several hundred million Chinese and third world people ride bicycles to work and back and never wear a stupid helmet. I think that whole helmet thing is being hyped by the helmet manufacturers to make a buck selling helmets. The media is so wrapped up in political correctness that you will never see an adult or kid riding a bicycle in any TV show or advertisement without wearing a stupid helmet. If one is so paranoid about bumping your head, then perhaps you shouldn't be riding a bicycle.

Kids in my town wear them too. They act like they're from the ghetto, but they live in million dollar homes, and have never been to the south ward.

They don't know the meaning of ghetto. Just a bunch of damn posers.

Well at least it's a change from the reverse baseball cap. That got old a LONG time ago but never seemed to go away.

I think the English upper classes have it right. At about age eight they put Junior in some private boarding school. Children are not permitted to return home until they are about 18, dress for dinner and speak in comprehensible sentences.

Having raised 5 boys I now say "Kids! Leave home now while you still know everything!"

Yeah, well, not to defend the homeboys, but i see people with all kinds of silly hats: the tweed fishing hat, pulled down, on many a commuter's head; the rakish Borsalino fedora (or whatever) in homage to Bogart-looking particularly silly on young men, styling to be best dressed ala Paul Stuart; the equally silly straw boater favored by the oldtime New Yorkers in the summer, along with seersucker suits.
Cool gear: them Rasta hats that contain 40 lbs. of dreads.

I think bicycle helmets are about the silliest looking head cover I have ever seen. They look like a turtle shell with slits.

they are called "doo rags". All they are are stocking caps. not sure what they are made out of though. Its a fashion thing. The people who wear doo rags when its hot out dont look as stupid as the idiots who wear shorts when it's 25. They think it makes them look tough, when in reality they look like complete idiots.

Yeah - 10 years ago they were all into the "homeless' look with holes in the jeans, long greasy hair. Kind of a grunge style.

Now it's Thug City, wear your wool cap even if it's 110 outside. Maybe when school is out in the summer they can all realize their wildest dreams and move to the REAL GHETTO for 3 months. They wouldn't last 3 days!

It is retarded - from MTV.

In my neighborhood we have all these ghetto thugs walking around; they live in $500,000 homes with their parents, but they spend all their time watching MTV, and are innocent of manners, punctuation, mathematics or geography.
