Greg, I'm very familiar with them. Hot, amazing cars--especially with the deep front spoiler. My first car, in high school, was a "rescued" 633CSi from a mechanic--the previous owner couldn't pay for a tranny repair, forgot about the car, moved away, etc. Was a steal at $2k. Talk about a car that has class! Also, something I've always noticed--there is a *vague* similarity in lines between the 6 series BMW at the Ferrari 400: BMW M6:
Ferrari 400:
The general shape... And, most notably, the coupe side window treatment. |

Yeah, Just afraid of people transplanting the engines making a Frankenstein car. The cars are not commanding enough of a price for surgery like that to be done right, if you know what I mean. I don't want a mechanical timebomb. |

I am pretty sure the original Euro cars had the M635 badging but this may have changed on later models. Best way to determine is by looking under the hood as the Euro motor valve cover is different than the US version. |

Jon, I found only one and contacted the owner. He sent me an email already with some pics of the car. There were ads on other Euro 6s but they were not ///Ms. I was under the impression that the Euro Ms had the badging ///M635 CSi, not ///M6. Nevertheless, this particular car has ///M6 on the rear decklid. Hmmm...maybe I should visit that forum you mentioned for BMWs. Sorry for the ranting Fcar nuts. |

Check here: http://www.roadfly.org/bmw/classifieds/cars/showads.php?cat=217 There are two Euro M6's listed for sale. Euro models are harder to find and usually command a 2-3K premium. Regards, Jon

I looove this car. I have been in the market for one of these for quite some time, but have not found one yet. I'm actually looking for the European specification 635 CSi M, which John is mentioning in his post. My dad had this car when I was young and I remember dearly when he sold it. Please let me know if you guys run into a good one for sale. Hopefully people will be getting rid of their rides as BMW releases their new 6 series. John, you seem to be in the loop with the Bimmer community, how about a couple of leads for this italophile? |

Greg, Forgot to mention, if you are seriously interested in one make sure you get the best one available preferrably with service records if possible. Many people buys these cars at bargain prices only to find out the repairs needed made the purchase price more than an expensive example woud have cost. Number one problem on these cars is the timing chain and being able to verify it has been changed. When they go you are talking big $$$$'s.

Greg, I own a "cousin" of the M6, the old and original M5 which shares the same engine and gearbox as the M6. The US version of the M6 used a 3.5 liter race derived in line six that made 256 hp and 239 pound feet of torque. The Euro version which was sold here from 85-87 and known as the M635CSI had 286 hp. The most used BMW board is roadfly.com but because of the rareity of the M6 most M6 owners reside on the M5 board at http://bimmer.roadfly.org/bmw/forums/e28m5/ Basically the cars (M5 and M6) are nearly identical on specs and performance as well as parts. You can see pictures of my M5 (which has been converted to a race car) at http://neverlift.homestead.com/flatout.html . The M series cars from the 80's are extremely expensive to maintain relative to their value. Engine rebuild is 10K at a minimum but closer to 12-13K from a reputable M shop. Tranny rebuild is 3K. Most other stuff is a bit more than an equivelant 80's BMW. I have owned my M5 for nearly 7 years and know the M6 and M5 in and out. If you have any further questions please feel free to email me. I have a friend who owns one and loves it. Regards, Jon P. Kofod 1995 F355 Challenge #23 1988 M5 Club Racer #44

Has anyone heard of the BMW M6 from the 1980's (powerful version of the 635csi). I dont know much about them, except that they are rare, and hold their value really well for BMW's. If anyone has some information or a site with pics or videos of the BMW M6, please let me know. Thanks |
