I agree with William - after visiting the Auto Show in Chicago a year ago, I kept thinking how "chunky and blocky" all the new designs are - like some kind of virus instigated at the hands of the Astek designer. What is happening to those beautifully elegant lines? One of my best friends used to design cars in Detroit before getting fed-up and moving to Hollywood to work in film. He said that you're so shackled with constraints that you end up forced into these blocky designs (bumpers have to be certain heights, A-pillars have to be such & such...he finally just bagged the whole thing. What's cool is another friend of his, Harold Belker, designed the Lexus used in Minority Report that got a lot of publicity and was a very innovative design. Again, just my .02, but I would love to see a return to form of designs like the 308. Only Ferrari consistently turns out beautiful designs (although the F-50 had to grow on me). |

I agree, I'm still a fan of the older designs. This happens to me every couple of years, BMW releases to new line or redesign of an excellent model. Like anything else, it grows on me & I will just have accept it. I wasn't a fan of the new 745 looks when it came out, nor the new Z4 but in time I learned to just live with it. Love it or leave it, all new cars designs are just getting more ugly. |

Yet another gorgeous BMW example of form following function. Also, see the definition for hideous (adj.). 1. Repulsive, especially to the sight; revoltingly ugly. 2. Offensive to moral sensibilities; despicable. |

It looks like a portly Lexus IS300. The new E-Class Mercedes is a beautiful car on the other hand. |

Well, I've never seen a more fitting opportunity to say: BMW's, aesthetically, are going to hell in a handbag. |

Too bad the E class doesn't have a stick though. I'll skip BMW too though. Shame, since I love the marque. Maybe the Maseratis will be a good alternative for sedan driving. |

it doesnt look as bad as I thought from before...they just have to redesign the grill so its less 'slopey' and more boxy almost...it would give the nice hint of aggressivness needed. |

The new nose will take some getting used to, but it still has that old BMW look. The wheels look like the are from an Audi A4 IMO. All in all, it looks like a nice car |

Not a fan at all, but I also think the redesigned 740 was awful as well. Still, it's fun to see what they keep coming up with. |

I never thought I would say this but the new E class is really a beautiful car. Especially the E55.. I still like the M5 or 540, but this new design may grow on my.. I can't wait for the V10 powered M5 to come... |

Looks like a Japanese design to me...nothing wrong with most Japanese designs, however, the Germans were usually very different (Audi, BMW, Porshce, MB etc.) Doesn't have the aggressive look of the past 5 series and other German competitors. I'd take an E-class over that anyday. |

Am I the only one who thinks that nose resembles the new Mazda RX-8? |

I think Chris Bangle ought to be sent to work inthe mail room. Makes you want to rush out and get an '03 before BMW self destructs! It affirms my decision to look for an '00 - '01 740i Sport, rather than buy the 745i or 760i. |

I'm not liking the Z3 nose too much.. |
