Des,

You can go to Auto Zone or O'Reilly's or another parts supplier like that for brake pads and rotors. They have sites on-line and usually offer three to four different selections on pads and rotors. They are generally quite a bit lower than going to the Saturn dealer and getting them. I got rotors for my 325 BMW for less than $30 each and they wanted about $85 each at the dealer. I put on 4 rotors, new pads and brake lining sensor for less than $150. Dealer wanted $800. Took me about two hours to do it all.

Once you get the rear calipers off, the rear rotors just pull right off. Fronts are a little more difficult but not much. You will need something to compress the pistons in your calipers and something and someone to help you bleed the brakes when you finish.. You need to remove the cap from you master cylinder when you compress the brake pistons to allow release of pressure. Just do not forget to put it back on when you finish. If you go to an auto parts store, they should have manuals printed especially for your car. It has pictures showing the work and step by step instructions on getting it done. I bought one for my BMW that is put out by Haynes. It is very good and is very helpful in allowing me to do a lot of my own work. It will be an overall vehicle manual and shows everything from mechanical, electrical, brakes, a/c, alternator, tune-ups etc. Usually cost less than $20 for the full manual. It is good for you to have one on hand just in case you need to look something up just for information.

Have fun and learn a lot.

i posted there. you dont need to measure anytjhnig to see if you need new pads. you can just look at them and see how much material is left. also, you can tell if you need new rotors by feeling if they are lipped or not. also, some GM rotors cant be cut, you wil need new ones.
