Chris Parr is around here a little. Everyone see he's the new FCA national membership chair. Guess we have to start kissing his ass now.

I agree that a RT-5 is not a beginner worry-free chassis. With proper at home preparation, you could get by with one helper at the track.

Yes, the Radical and Diasio www.diasio.com are much better choices and are directly marketed to guys like you.

If you want a rent-a-ride, I know Diasio is hooked up with Midwest N.A.S.A. guys at their events.

Schumi, the car that you reference, based on spec, is quite likely a Van Diemen.

At the USGP last year there was a guy selling an open wheel racer that used a Hyabusa engine and looked alot like the Ferrari F1 car, but smaller of course. I lost his number and forgot the price - anyone remember that guy?

i didnt think shipping would be that much, maybe 1K to 1.5K? i was more concerned about the british VAT, if we bought in england and shipped to the US would we have to pay VAT? or is it like canada where you pay but then you get it back when the car leaves the country? if we want to save more $ im pretty sure the car comes as a kit

Try to talk Parr into it too. For 1/5th of his F40 budget he could have a top car in about any SCCA class he could choose. SCCA club racing is much safer than that karting he does!

SCCA magazines "Sports Car" always has a ton of these Sports Racer cars for sale. Probably the single best source of ads for these. They also do an analysis of all the ones on the market once a year. Actually, I think the last issue had that. Send me your address Judge and I'll mail it to you.

Race it, don't just track it! You've got Heartland Park, Mid America Motorplex, and Hallett all within 2-3 hours drive of you. Club racing is a blast!

Shipping would be a whopper! I couldn't get a real good idea of the total package price - let me know if you know. Good looking car though.

Schumi, check out www.ADR-sport.co.uk im thinking about ordering one, less than half the price of a radical, if we order more than one car we get a 10% discount, 15% for 3, ajustable peddles for you physically guys, the 2 seater would be great for getting friends to go with, no miata's would be passing you in one of these

The Van Diemen is, of sorts, an open-wheel version of a Radical. KRC (located at Willow Springs) sells/rents and offers a school re: Van Diemen. Might be worth a look.

My previous experience is a Skip Barber 3 day racing school. But, I do not intend to acutally enter any race series. Yes, I saw the one on ebay and thought that it looked like alot of fun. But, you are probably right about the expense. I never thought about the tracks not letting you on. I want an open wheel car that I can just load up and go - with few worries. I thought about an old beater 308, but the expense in rebuilds shut that down. I will look into the Radical. Do you have any websites I can look at for them? Any other suggestions you have would be appreciated. Let me know when you are going to be in K.C. again and we'll get together. Our FCA/KC club has some great events upcoming, including a show on the Plaza in May. Thanks, Daren

What's your previous experience?

Are you talking about the one on ebay?

Those are serious race cars. The one on ebay may have a detuned Olds engine, but the guys in the SCCA and Toyota Atlantic series (Dancia Patrick) will rebuild the engine every 400 miles or less.

It's not a load on the trailer and take to the track for a weekend of problem free driving.

I wouldn't get a full race car if just doing track events. 90% of everyone else will be in street cars and you'll get frustrated both with you can't get buy someone because they're so slow and also when a little miata is faster than you.

If you still want a race car for track events I might look at something like the Radical. We've talked about it before on here. BTW, most "driver education" track events don't allow open wheel race car groups.

I am 6'4" and looking for a race car to take to track events, a local track and just screw around with - no serious racing events. Is this a good car to start with? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
