They both have the same amount of high quality parts that fall off at speed so I would say so..Yes. They can

surprisingly enough allan, the diablo only got to 184, so 5 mph more than me, despite having 4 wheel drive (it was wet), and about 100 more bhp than me....some of this may have been the driver though ;)

You must of been in a ratty Diablo. Even my old 1992 Diablo did not squeek or rattle. But even if it rattled, atleast you got to speed awhole lot faster!

i like both. but which one would i spend money on, is a model specific question. for example, if i wanted a mid engined 12 cylinder, i would choose the 512tr/m over a diablo. (this was once again reinforced this weekend in a high speed run in a diablo. it rattled and creaked and wheezed and felt not as well built as my much older 512tr).
on the other hand, if i were in the market for an enzo, i would have to think twice about spending nearly 3 times what a murcielago costs, for arguably not much more real-world useable power. (and having test driven the murci, i have to say i do like it).

as for the analolgies, my favorite is that if ferrari is cindy crawford, then lamborghini is pamela anderson. both look like a good time, but which one do you take home to meet the parents, or spend the rest of your life with?

DES, it's Ford vs. Chevy at the other end of the scale. We live in a world of one winner and everyone else get in line. You know the story that Mr. Lamborghini created his car company out of disappointment with his Ferrari. That will keep the two competing forever. So would you prefer a Mustang GT or a Z28?

Gee DES, you really like to live on the edge with this thread!

Anyway, my answer is I like them both. I have favorites among Lambos (CountachQV, Diablo roadster) and Ferraris (308, GTO, TR, etc.). At the same time, some of the cars I don't care for at all. Both carmakers have sufficient customers (although it's been tougher for Lamborghini historically) so I think the planet is big enough for both. If I had the $$, I wouldn't mind having one of each (or more) in my collection.

What amazes me is the legaondary Mario Andetti is a HUGE lambo fan. He raced & won the F1 world championship for Ferrari back in '78, but loves driving a Lambo. He's known to attend many club events & fun runs when he has the time. Man, I respect that.

I had the honor to see a Espada & a Muira a couple of weeks ago & I was simply impressed with the styling & design. During that time, it looked more impressive than most Ferraris.

>>Thats when you need the biggest, fastest, most awesome vehicle on the earth, a Lamborghini. <<

Ohhhh Yeaaa no doubt about it!!!

>>Ferraris = Exotic

Lamborghinis = More Exotic <<<

Definately !

Lambos are different than Ferraris...when you sit in a Ferrari it feels good, even great, but when you simply sit in a Lambo it really is like the old Alpine commercial where the guy is sitting in the chair doing 200mph with the wind/sound blasting his hair back.

Coexist peacefully..in general terms yes..but you might notice in the Texas section The Texas Running of the Bulls event has drawn no interest from the texas Ferrari crowd...2 reasons imo...,1- they didn't think of it first and they won't "control" the event so it's less fun for them, 2-...because it's a Lambo first event, it makes them feel less than....so you can see that ego's are a fikkle and fragile thing.

The rivalry between the Lambo crowd and Ferrari owners is not as severe as say..the Porsche group. Whenever there is an Italian car gathering you always see the Lambos and Ferrari's side by side. Unless you are Ferrucio or Enzo, I don't see the tension with the two Italian enthusiasts owners.

Ferrari advantages have been well covered in the previous posts. Lamborghini quality control has greatly improved with the Merc.

I personally like Lamborghini better than Ferrari,but i still love both. I dont agree that Ferraris are more comfortable or reliable. They are easier for day to day use, due largely inpart to the fact they dont generate anywhere near the public drama that Lambos do. But to me, an exotic, is not for daily use, but for those days when you feel the need to own the roads. Thats when you need the biggest, fastest, most awesome vehicle on the earth, a Lamborghini.

As for depreciation, I guess you havent checked Testarossa, 456, or 550 values lately.

I like Ferrari more than Lamborghini, just as a stylistic point of view...However I do LOVE the Countach and Muira. I'll put it this way, Id prefer a Ferrari, but if someone gave me a Lamborghini...I wouldnt mind :-)

I agree with Peter, I like Italian cars...European cars as a whole I guess (I like old British and German cars as well).

In my world, they exist together peacefully, plus all of the others... I am an Italian car enthusiast! From a Fiat 500, to a Lambo Murcie', I love 'em all.

DES: i encourage you to haunt the Lambo board, snare a ride or two and report back. I like 'em, but not well enough to own one in the NorthEast; i'd want to live near Al Burtoni, in Gilroy California, to be able to get the thing serviced. The one i love most is probably the original periscope roof Lp 400 Countach for sheer outrageousness and beauty of line; the Muira a close second (in SV form); also like those early GTs; find the Diablo pretty outrageous, but not as cutting edge for its time as the early Countach. Actually like the Murci, but man, it seems like one big-assed car. These cars also depreciate even more than ferraris, right out of the gate.There are some great books on them, if you want i'll dig up the title of the best one for you to track down.

The bottom line is:

There are certain traits that are inherent in exotic cars. Some of those traits are good, some bad.

Ferraris = Exotic

Lamborghinis = More Exotic

Enthusiasts will continue to bump heads, in my opinion. But I think that deep down in all enthusiasts there is a respect for the opposing manufacturer. For enthusiasts to live in peace I think they need to understand both companies. In my opinion, Ferrari is much more refined. Lamborghini is a much harsher ride. I once heard this analogy. Ferrari is like a playboy model. She can be nice and pleasing, but if she wants she could take you for the ride of your life. Lamborghini is like a playboy centerfold model. She will eat you up and spit you out. I have never driven a Lamborghini, but I have sat it one. The few Ferraris that I have driven and sat in are much more comfortable, at least to sit in. Probably a lot more information that DES was asking for, but when I started typing it all just came out.
