John

I picked up on that. You still will have guys out there that will realize other expensive replacement components of their cars or trucks will (or may) become damaged.

Heres a good place to start with your idea. Send your idea to the following guys and see what they say:

Neil Cloud Sr. Product Development Manager at Great Planes [email protected]
Champaign,IL

Rob Gherman Executive Publisher Hobby Merchandiser Magazine [email protected]
Morganville,NJ

Jim Schweickert Sr. Buyer Global Hobby Distributors [email protected]
Fountain Valley,CA

Jeff Yeager Co-Owner HRP Hobby Distribution
[email protected]
West Valley City, UT

Jeff Fassbinder Sr. Purchasing Manager
ACE Hobby Distributors [email protected]

See what these guys say. I am ho-hum on the idea, but these people are extremely dialed into the industry. I would like to hear what they think of your idea.

It would not be ready to run trucks, just metal bodies, but they are not meant to be a serious add on, rather a frivolous fun thing to buy once in a while and have a destruction derby or destroy the car bashing.

FYI, I have fielded eighteen emails from those with product ideas. Six people have told me about their prospective product(s). In searching past history on 'their idea(s)', I found two brand names that have existing trademarks and likewise with two patents that have already been issued.

I encourage all emails from people that want my help. Prior to doing so, go to www.uspto.gov. This is the US patent and trade mark data base. All information is public. Use the Basic search to see if a trade mark or patent has been issued for your idea. One person told me of their idea in which he has $65K invested in the product (prototypes and pre-marketing). What bit was the fact that I had to tell him that his idea had already been issued a patent and the idea and
'art' (as an idea is called) would be difficult to file a like patent stating a clear change of design....That was tough information to relay.

Again, I do not need to know what your idea is. If you want to tell me, thats fine, but I am more interested in fielding questions and giving direction on the development process.

John

Between the tooling and product liability costs, you may have trouble getting this idea to market. Traxxas has the ready-to-run market very captive. Selling metal Vs plastic may be a tough battle.

I am though out to kick traxxas' butt with my company's line of RC crystals! (see www.performancedevices.com). I have a better product at a lower retail than Traxxas. I am also after Futaba and Hitec with my line of 75MHz sets at less than half the retail price. I have Horizon and Global as the exclusive distributors.
I can do this because I do not need to make up profit for low margins on $300 TMaxx trucks, etc.

You may think about other after-market RC car accesories using plastic. Go look at the prices of items such as wheels, fuel tanks, gears and suspension parts....Its nuts what the retailed have to charge! There is clearly room for new companies like mine to enter this market with the sales model that I have.

It would be similar to a tin can, not sharp when crumpled and no heavier than the plastic bodies. The point of them is to ruin them bashing and then get a new one, they will be cheap.

but then you would have to worry about the metal cutting your fuel tubing or breaking other parts when crumpling...and the first time the tmaxx tried to turn with that body it would be ruined...those things can't turn worth beans(no offense).

Of course I would charge as low a cost as I could becuase the bodies are somewhat disposable...just think though, RC destruction derbies!

Hey guys, I see you're into RC, I had an idea for those which I am testing now. They are low-cost RC bodies made of tin or another thin metal with thin brittle plastic windows that get crumpled, smashed, windows broken etc when bashing to make for a very realistic bashing session, since you can show your friends the carnage afterwards...think this ia a good idea? Also any ideas on materials, production etc...? Probably would make it for T-Maxx because of their popularity, and charge about $10 for a prepainted solid colour body.

Patrick...No sarcasm here! I really enjoy this! If I had a dollar for every mistake I have made, I would have bought a 550 Vs my 308! (haha....I like my 308) :-)

If anyone has a good product idea, the cash to get it going (I won't ask for a dime)but does not know where to start, I can help. I am good at this. Last year, I sold a company I started with my patent of a flexible magnet that fit in the disposer to the kitchen sink. It caught metal objects before entering the disposer. For nine years, I developed and sold the Nutz Novelties PANIC BUTTON, a red computer key that read PANIC. I sold the company to www.johnsonsmith.com catalog company last year also. My current new start-up is at www.performancedevices.com, crystals for the RC car industry.

I have a knack for developing products at low costs. I also know most of the mistakes. I can help in packaging, artwork, barcodes, printing, patent questions, sales channels and so on.

Why am I offering this? I am doing so because its fun! Its great to see others like myself (or ones that have the will to do the like) get their dreams in gear! Also, its a 'kiss of death' for an inventor to get roped in one of the 'Inventor Submission' type of companies that look for pigeons...I mean Persons to do business with.

Please replyto this post or email me at [email protected]. You can tell me about your product when YOU are ready to do so...Just pick my brain for free!
