Hoo-boy. Here we go again.

I wonder why ABC News, that bastion of impartiality....seemingly "forgot" to get outraged at the pay, benefits, perks, and pensions of its own (and parent company Disney's--one of the least transparent public conmpanies in America) executives???

Mendacity is where you find it...and one person;s mendacity is another person's effective comp plan for superior shareholder returns. But I guess many with perpetual chips on their shoulders about the inequity in wealth that has been with civilization since there has been civilization, will never see that...

And here's another link to their CEO story. Apparently, they modify their website so frequently that the links disappear rather quickly.

Here's some more update on the Enron big-whig fiasco from ABC news. I saved this link from their website just seconds before the link disappeared. They updated the story with a smaller page, but here's the original page.

http://abcnews.go.com/wire/Business/ap20030501_1571.html

Also, I recorded the ABC network news story just minutes ago concerning fat-cat CEOs. Here is a transcription of some key statements:

Concerning fat-cat CEOs and their perks:

Dean Reynolds, ABC news: "These padded executive pensions are almost never tied to performance but they're offered by about half of all big publicly traded companies now."

Then from Sarah Teslik, Council of Institutional Investors: (perks are offered) "both because they're easy to hide in financial statements but also because they're often given right before the executive runs out the door"

Looks like others are seeing the light concerning big-whigs feathering their nest at the expense of the little guy.

In the same ABC newscast, Graef Crystal, columnist with the Bloomberg News, describe the CEO actions as a "Let them eat cake" attitude with little regard to the working class employees.
Gee, that sounds exactly like what we were discussing here last week, doesn't it?

BTW, I agree with the need to go after the Enron guys (and girls) and anyone else who does these sorts of things. I just do not believe that all CEO's should be grouped under one heading.

Arlie,

Would you like to propose a solution to the problem of a company needing a CEO? Even you admitted in an earlier post that the station you work for has a CEO/Owner. Do you suppose that because some of the CEO's have done something that is wrong that all are guilty?

I do not understand your obsession with "fat cat CEO's." There are literally hundreds of thousands of CEO's in the US. Do you propose that we just shoot them all and get it over with? Do you not think that they would need to be replaced with someone else to direct the companies or do you naively think that a company can run itself without a head?????

Help me out here. I want to know what you are intending to say with all the attacks that you direct at all CEO's in general. I believe there are a number of CEO's on FC. Are they a bunch of "fat cats?" Should we be investigating them for fraud also?? Help me out, I do not understand what you are trying to say.

Saw on the news that several Enron CEO types were arrested on various charges. Imagine that; fat cat CEOs arrested for allegations of fraud? Say it ain't so Joe.
