First they ruined the 7. Now they're ruining the 5.
Weird.

I purchased one of the first cars delivered to Princeton BMW. Got the 745i in January 2002.
It hasn't been fun, last month I had to write to BMW North America and threaten to dump the car if it wasn't fixed.
Most of it has been, however, on a cloudy day you can't see the map (the computer automatically dims the screen) the background is gray and the minor streets brown. Try and see that from the driver's seat. BMW told me "sorry nothing we can do", so one day I'll run off the road while I'm trying to read the map.
VOICE COMMANDS::: I'd give alot if they materialized the guy that answers the voice command, I'd kick him right in the teeth.

Actually, the fact that they needed a sledge hammer most likley means it was a Protection Car, as unless done aftermarket, BMW doesn't offer Protection versions of the E65/66 yet.

That means it was most likley a E38 7 series (like my baby) It is interesting to note, as the older E38 was very reiable to the end of its production life.

Also, it could have been a standard E38 with break resistant windows....which are very thick windows are rediculously hard to break into from the outside....and when the plastic film that holds the "sandwhich" of different glasses together gets cut on the inside, or you use a harsh window cleaner (again on the inside of the glass)....you are looking at anywhere between 2-3 thousand dollars to replace. The price one has to pay for safety.

That's hilarious! I recently saw the 7 Series reviewed on Speedvision's Test Drive. It SEEMS pretty incredible, but I'd rather my car didn't walk my dog, run my house, and oversee my stock portfolio and just worked properly. These cars are getting insanely computerized. Just think how many problems we have with all of our desktop and laptop computers and all the tech support required in business. Wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing many more of these incidents, in addition to giant lines at the service depts...

Maybe they should rename "I-Drive" as "It-Won't-Drive"...
