I have a pre-paid phone from tracfone that I keep in my GT4.

Where the pre-pay guys get you is that the minutes you pay for expire every 30 or 60 days (depending on the provider) unless you buy some more minutes.

Tracfone has an option where you can buy minutes that expire after a year, so that was one of the reasons I got it. It is more expensive this way (on a per-call basis), but still cheaper than paying $30 month for cell service.

I bought my phone for I think about $50, that came with 30 minutes that expire after 60 days. Then, I bought a card that had somehting like 150 mintues that expired in one year for ~$90. I still have about ~100 minutes left on the phone, since I hardly ever use it.

I think you can probably do a web search to find better deals, but at the time, I needed the phone quickly (I was going to pick up my car in San Jose), and bought it retail.

The one thing I don't like about trac fone is that to update your minutes, you need to log on, or call from another phone. You can't just update it via your cell phone. I think some of the other providers may let you do this.

The other providers that I know of are Virgin, and AT&T.

P.S.- I also bought a cigarette lighter charger for $5.00 from wall mart that I keep in the car.

I keep a cell phone in the car for trips. I don't like paying monthly for months I don't use.

I know a few companies are working on pre-pay cell phones. Just like those long distance pre-pay phone cards.

Anybody seen one on the market yet?
Monthly phone bill from cell company is so full of BS charges. I'd love to pay for just what I use!
