Oooo... swwweeeet pic of my 360 on that site! That was taken at the last Drivers Edge event that I attended. I need to see if I can get a higher-res copy of that! I think that may be the best pic I've seen of my car. And I've been looking for just the right conditions to go back to TWS (haven't been since I became a member of MSRanch)... this sounds perfect... lots of exotics, great time of year (not too hot), and great hosts. Now I just have to clear my calendar. Any F'chatters planning to attend?? Brian

Rick asked me to post this update: The Exotic Car Adventure (www.exoticcaradventure.com) is a high profile, exotic car only performance-driving event and the first of its kind. Your Adventure beings with Friday night novice drivers meeting/social, and consists of two power-packed days of exploring high performance driving on the full 2.9 mile road race course at Texas World Speedway. TWS is host to 14 challenging turns of varying degrees! During the weekend, experience the thrill of mastering your cars capabilities all within a controlled, safe environment. Then join everyone Saturday night for dinner and all the excitement of sharing driving experiences with new-found friends. The Exotic Car adventure is produced by The Drivers Edge, which has been organizing high profile, high-performance driving events through out Texas since 1995. The events, offered by The Drivers Edge, attract a diverse group, ranging from the novice who is new to the track, to the seasoned veteran, seeking generous time behind the wheel, while perfecting their skills on the track. The Drivers Edge has developed a huge following from many auto enthusiasts and car clubs in the region with their seamless organization and professionalism. The Drivers Edge events are presented in a fun and challenging way, with the most important element being safety. Our passion is high-performance driving and sharing the experience. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions! Rick Schwalenberg 817 571-1101

There is a part of me that would rather join a group of 'exotic car owners' at a function like this because I think my perception about my car is different than the owner of a VW or BMW. I'd guess a lot of Ferrari owners might understand/agree with me about that. I watched a video of a friend of mine driving his Z06 around the track right on the bumper of a 355. The corvette was being driven much more agressively and I was a little surprised he didn't run into the Ferrari. I would think other Ferrari owners might not be as careless. Granted, the Ferrari should have moved aside, but the 'go kart' mentality would worry me. I'll do one of these events someday, but not until the car has new tires and brakes. I'd pay more to have fewer cars on the track simply because of MY abilities (or lack thereof). My view through my rose colored glasses. |

Dave, I think you addressed my points well, I think my main issue is just with the cost. I get the same feeling inside over this event as when someone finds out I have a Ferrari... amazing the economics at work. My dissertation will be called "Immediate Inflationary Phenomenon of Prices in Ferrari Presence". The last chapter will be called "My a$$ hurts". They're doing some extras over the traditional Drivers Edge event, but I don't think $250 worth. No doubt it will be a fun event and in the presence of great cars. I guess that's what you pay for. I happily paid $750 for the FCA annual meet. |

Rob, I have no financial stake in this business venture--just trying to help my friend Rick S. That said, please allow me to address your comments: - Why would you want to pay $500 for a Driver's Edge Exotic Event when the regular weekend events are $225? [regular Drivers Edge events at TWS are $275, and involve 120 +/- cars; this costs more, will have fewer cars, 5-count 'em-5 run sessions per day!!, and also INCLUDES lunch both days & a really nice dinner Saturday night] - I think the target market for this is rich exotic owners with little to no previous track time. I would rather go to a typical event with experienced DE drivers. [perhaps...but I suspect that there will be a mix of both groups here, just as there is in every DE; hence, every DE has green, blue, yellow, & white groups] However, if you are rich and you own an exotic and you've never done a DE, then this may be the best first event for you. [being rich is not an issue; remember, there are more 308/328 Ferraris out there than any other model!! and if you add up your true costs of an event at TWS, you will find that this is actually price competitive, considering the # of runs per day] I've found the local F Club has a phobia about getting their cars out with other Makes. [true; but not so for the BMW & Porsche clubs--wonder why??; nevertheless, 80 cars is the target, and I expect a good mixture] What most don't realize is you are usually safer with a group of experienced DE drivers in their BMW and VW's than outclassed newbies in exotics. [very true, Rob; but again, just like ANY OTHER event of this type, there will be novice, intermediate, & expert run groups; I don't see the distinction you are making here??]

[toggle soap box on] - Why would you want to pay $500 for a Driver's Edge Exotic Event when the regular weekend events are $225? Same track, maybe a little less time, but if you've done a DE before you know that you usually get more track time than you and your car can stand anyway. - I think the target market for this is rich exotic owners with little to no previous track time. I would rather go to a typical event with experienced DE drivers. However, if you are rich and you own an exotic and you've never done a DE, then this may be the best first event for you. I've found the local F Club has a phobia about getting their cars out with other Makes. What most don't realize is you are usually safer with a group of experienced DE drivers in their BMW and VW's than outclassed newbies in exotics. [toggle soap box off] Dave, if this is your business venture, then I think it will be very successful and fun for a certain target market. However, for most of the local exotic crowd I know you'll be better off getting two weekends of fun for the same price. |

Nice - I see my car made the front page, too! I'd love to get the Esprit out at TWS, that's a fun track. Unfortunately, I will be out of town that weekend. Fortunately, it's for a bachelor party... I passed on the website to one of the Lotus email lists. |

Folks, check this out: http://www.exoticcaradventure.com/ If you have a Ferrari, Maserati, Lambo, Aston, Lotus, Bentley, etc., you are invited. This is a mandatory requirement. If you have a question about whether your car is approved for this event, please post it here, and I will get it answered. It will be put on by the Drivers Edge organization, which is known for quality track events in Texas, but will be much more intimate, and of much higher quality, commensurrate with the invitee list. |
