I dunno, Ron, the thought of 70 guys in Ferraris all running around in a string sorta reminds me of those groups of Japanese ski tourists you see. All coming down the hill together, all wearing the same jacket.

I guess we are more independent over here, I just get in the damn car and drive whenever I feel like taking it.

Jim, most of our drives are 6-10 cars. I don't know what happened with this one, it just took off.

Maybe the timing is good, maybe the drive route is good, maybe everyone is expecting great weather, I don't know but for whatever reason, it looks like it will be one to remember.

Yeah Ron, but that's such a logistical nightmare to manage all those cars. Much easier to do 10 or 12.

William,

I`m wondering and a bit nervous whats going on this week. Hopefully I can fly this Friday????
I was adviced from several friends working at the Army NOT to fly on Friday. I`m serious watching TV and every 1 hour bad, bad news....the war will come:-((((
So if Georg W. hopefully changes his mind I will be in Dallas this weekend and I`m also looking forward to see "Robert Randolph & the Family Band". Thanks for your advice, I appreciate it very much.

So hope to CU next time in the DFW area (I will be there every 2 month)

Wolfgang,

Sorry I can't make up to DFW, I'm too busy with the shop. Have a beer for me when you get up there. Also, if you get a chance, you must listen to Robert Randolph & the Family Band. I saw him on Austin City Limits a while back & it was amazing. It's like a bit of SRV!

Enjoy

Hi Jim,

I will try to go to BOB next weekend on Saturday.
Saw your 328 GTS in your profile. Its so beautiful in WHITE /w.crema and looks brand new congratulation!!!
Likewise you mention:
"The first lesson in Italian driving, whats behind you is not important"

Here is the second lesson (hardly to translate for me):
TRAFFIC SIGNS in Italy = Recommendations without any obligations!

Wolfgang has found Bobs, my all time favorite Dallas Steak house. I was going to suggest he try some others, but they're all chains. Del Frisco's, Ruth's Chris, Sullivans, Pappas Bros, The Capitol Grille, and the newly opened Smith and Wollensky.

This is a GREAT town for steak!

Wolfgang,

Wow it's amazing that you discovered Kirby's. Personally I think it's the best Steak for the price in town.

But then again I am biased. I grew up eating at the original Kirby's. The current owners purchased their recipes from old Man Kirby just weeks before his death.

STEAK STEAK STEAK !!!
I`m travelling a lots around the world but the best Steak Houses are still in Texas!
- Cattlemen`s / Fort Worth
- Chope House / Sundance Square
- Kirby`s / Dallas

Sorry guys, no one can beat a Texan Steak (for me!)

SRV was in a league unto himself.

For all who love the Austin music scene: the world drawing, South-by-South-West music festival begins tomorrow (3/12).
Any kind of music you want to hear is on tap!

Weather is questionable for Fcars until the weekend.

William,

I saw him when he opened for the Who in '89 too (with my lovely wife to be)! My one and only time I saw him. I was never really a fan, until that day. He had such a huge presence on stage, one of the great performers I've ever seen.

It is also available on dvd along with a couple Austin City Limits shows. His recent cd boxed set has a dvd as well with many more songs from the same Austin City Limits show that are not on the other dvd.

Wolfgang,

I'm glad that you got to see SRV, most folks never did. Your one lucky man. I only had the fortune of seeing him at the New Blue Bird back in the days, open for the The Who in 1989 & met him at a friends night club back in 1990. Amazing with a steel slide guitar, So much energy in his style, you had to see it to believe it. I will never forget it.

Howdy William,

I saw S.R.V. a coupel of times in Austin rocking the stage at Steamboat 1874, San Antones, Joe`s Generic Bar. I also met him in the DFW area playing in a smal club for 20 peopel...sorry forgott the name.

Damon:
Yeah, the El Macambo gig was one off the greatest shows he has ever done!!! I`m so sad that I haven`t been there; but im Germany we can get a VHS Video with the complete show.

Just a questions: I will back in Dallas this month from Friday, 21.March till Monday 24.March. Are there some gigs around DFW I MUST go/see/???
I appreciate every insider tip....`cause I`m still a foreign and hungry to see the Texan-Guitar-Slingers!

Actually on a similar note, Steve Miller used to play @ the Electric Light Ballroom over on Travis here in Dallas. Growing up I would always see the Vaughn brothers hanging around @ small places around town. I have autographed Lps of all of the above hanging around in my Old LP box.

Great to hear about "foreigners" with interest in our own little piece of the planet. I was once on a flight from San Antonio back to Dallas and seated in the bulkhead section with me were an Arkansas cattle rancher in his jeans and hat, a New Zealand tourist, an Italian medical student and an Indian software engineer. The kiwi was in San Anton on vacation and was truly fascinated with Texas history; he had learned more in a week than most of us who grew up here did in school. Our diverse group's short time together was honestly one of the greatest times I have ever had with "strangers". Those of us without family waiting at the airport spent another couple hours in the bar when we landed.

Every time I am in Austin I am sure to pay Stevie Ray a visit at his memorial. I really only discovered him about 5 or so years ago; one of my biggest regrets will always be never seeing him play live....But damn if he doesn't try to blow the roof off at the El Mocambo!

Howdy Rob,

thanks for your reply. To be honest I know less about the real Texas. But Music is my passion & my job. I will be again from March 21.-24. in Dallas. I will stay in the Ramada Plaza, South Akard which is close to Deep Elum and all the great places to see those guitar-slingers performing. Fort Worth is also very close for a short trip. Sorry to forget the great Robert Johnson. I know he is still sitting in "Bronze" downton in Deep Elum. Have you ever been in Austin, 5/6th Street in Joe`s Generic Bar??? What an awesome place. I saw S.R.V. playing there only for tips in the `80th.
So here is a German who felt in love with Texas!

Best Regards from Germany

Funny you know more about Texas music than most Texans. It's like my friend in the Ferrari club that knows everything about the WWII German aces and heros. He goes to Germany to meet the ones still alive and he finds the general populus could care less.

Anyway, have a few Chris Duarte CD's and don't forget about Robert Johnson, one of the first of the orginal bluesman that kicked off most of the music we hear today. Recorded right here in DFW at Deep Elum in the 1930's.

MUSIC !!!
All the great guitar slingers are from Texas!
Never forget the great Stevie Ray Vaughan, ZZ Top,
Eric Johnson, Chris Duarte, Alan Haynes, Kenny Wayne S.....a.s.o. Don`t mess with Texas?!
Sorry guys, I`m German and only a coupel of times every year in Texas doing business. So my opinion can not be important! I only misted the muisc in your lists.

seriously. I travel every single week east coast west coast. The ONLY 2 places I enjoy going are FLA and CA other than coming home to Texas. The girls here are smokin, the food is awesome an 80% of the time the weather is great too. The only 2 things we are missing here in Texas are the coast line and mountains. Yes, those are a big deal, but trade the cost of living and other things and I figure Texas is close enough and cheap enough via SW Air to get to the other things so as I don't care.

Miami is GREAT!
San Diego and LA are great!
San Fran is too cold, foggy and expensive for me.
NYC is too cold and congested.

What I need is Cancun weather, prices and attitude, but 10 mins away!

My reasons

1)cost of living is cheaper - DFW area
2)TEXAS WORLD SPEEDWAY - plenty of history there.
3)Fred's Cafe, Ft Worth - Best burger you will ever have.
4)A J Foyt is from here.
5)Schumi & his brother flew into Ft Worth to hang out a couple of months back.
6)JRV's PINNACLE MOTORSPORTS - enough said.
7)Driving in the Texas hill country
8)South Padre Island during spring break - ah... the good ol' days
9)Carroll Shelby was born here - Leesburg, Texas
10)Anna Nicole Smith may have been born here but California is stuck with her now - HA! take that!

5 reasons to like TX from www.census.gov.

1. TX-261,797 Sq miles, CA-155,959. We're bigger.

2. Median value of owner-occupied housing TX-$82,500, CA-$211,500. We're cheaper.

3.Persons per square mile TX-79.6, CA-217.2. We're less congested.

4. Women owned firms TX-25.0%, CA-27.3%. Draw your own conclusions.

5. Housing units TX-8,157,575, CA-12,214,549. 50% more houses, nearly 3 times the population.

Rob,

I would have to argue with you on the No Fanatical Environmentalists. Last year I did the west end parade with the Indy and smoked a little. I got a rather nasty letter from the state. Ah on a vehicle that is exempt. Yes I fixed the problem ( idled to long bad for points..) So I sent them a note back saying fixed it but tuff... They sent me another letter asking exactly what I did and how much I spent etc. I sent them a rather rude letter back...
