Thanks guys. I figured out that it was just as easy and, probably safer, to remove the entire shock and spring assembly from the car and work on it with the spring still installed. I had to disassemble the trunk liner to get to the upper shock bolts, but once I had access, everything went fairly smoothly. New bushings are now reinstalled and I am cleaning the car up for the Grapefest show. One last question. Does anyone have the correct torgue specs for the bolts holding the lower shock mounts, swaybar and lower ball joint to the lower A-arm? Thanks. |

>>I am replacing the lower bushings on my front shocks.<< >> To remove the shock do I need to compress the spring? << NO. I'm not following here. If you are only replacing the lower shock bushings why are you wanting to take the springs off? |

Being your first time, BE CAREFUL. There is a ton of potential engergy that can go kinetic in your face "literally". Makes me nervous every time, and we've got professional grade tools. |

Mark, You need two spring compressors. Make sure they are small. There is not a lot of room in the front. Compress the spring so that they "fall off" the mounting rubber. Once the springs are loose, Use the knurled nut tool to loosen the the bottom ring and then sping down the top ring. Once everything is loose, unbolt the shock and slide off the sping and replace the bushings. Install is the opposite. Most performance shops should have the proper tools. You might need to dremel the larger knurling tool. |

Thanks. I really am a novice when it comes to working on my F car. This is the first project I have tried to do myself. It looked simple and I have some mech experience so I dove right in, and forgot the first rule of Murphy's Law, "there is no such thing as a simple job!" |

Go to Sears and tell them you need a knurled nut removal tool. Sorry, wish I could really help! |

I am replacing the lower bushings on my front shocks. To remove the shock do I need to compress the spring? Do I need a special tool to remove the knurled nuts that hold the bottom of the springs? If so, where can I get one? Any guidance in this will be most appriecated. |
