In a previous DIY, I referred to accessing the exterior mirror mounting holes by simply referring to "getting inside the door skin panel". That was a simplified explanation and to truly get inside the door, you'll need to remove the interior Door Panel. This also allows you access to other important areas; door locks, handle mechanism, and window carrier that I thought it would be worth a series of photos.

Once again, the Dino is conveniently simple which makes these cars so easy and gratifying to work on. This mounting technique is also widely used on other cars and applicable in many types of cars. After learning this skill when working on the Dino (years ago), I've been able to do the same on my Toyota, Ford, Maserati, and ... well, you get the point.

    1) Pull the door release handle to reveal two Phillips Head screws attached to the protector cup, remove them with a #1 Phillips driver
    2) Using a Flat Head screwdriver, remove the two CheeseHead screws that mount the door pocket through the panel to the frame.
    3) Remove the edge securing trim screws with a driver, making sure you support the panel as you near the last ones.
    4) Pull the Door handle out so it does not bind the panel and hold it while you rotate the door panel slightly upwards so that the oblong handle clears the small door handle cutout
    5) Gently pull the panel away from the door.

NOTE: Some door panels have internal plastic, press-in popits to attach the panel to holes in the bodywork. These require a special tool (your wife's spaghetti fork is a good candidate!), but its quite similar

Scott, this DYI is very useful, but I couldn't locate a description of how to remove the narrow door panel that's above the main panel and overlaps it...the one with the cavity for pulling the door closed from inside. I have excess gap on this piece and was trying to figure out how to fix it. But there's no visible screws holding this piece on and I certainly don't want to apply force that might break what's holding it on. Does it snap on, slide on, etc?

    Suggestions? - Thx!

Once you remove the large panel (shown above) then the "edge bolster" attaching screws are revealed. There are four screws on mine that you unfasten to free the top edge bolster. But you're not done yet, it is captured by the door lock know which is removed using a philllips head screw driver from above. Then it is free and can be easily lifted off the top of the door

FYI - The Door lock knob has a built-in phillips head slot to help removing
