The radio reception is really bad and I want to make sure the amp is ok (nr 10 in the picture). I have tried to follow the cord under the dashboard in the right corner as shown in the picture, but it just disappears underneath the window. My last 355 did not have this problem and it makes me think that it might be the amp and not the radio unit.

on my 348 it's behind the right dash vent. (RHD) Pull the vent out and there it is. I imagine it's similar on your 355. Mike.

Found the amp in the same place.

The "fuse" doesn’t really look like a fuse, I think it’s just a connector. Tried to disconnect the amp and could not really hear any difference or find any difference when trying to find a weak station.

However removing the cord that goes to the window antenna the radio gets almost dead. So I guess there is a connection between the radio and the antenna, but no amplification. I checked the voltage going to the amp and that seems to be ok. Broken amp or something else? How effective should these amp units be?

My slip on the "fuse holder"! I'm so stupid - on another thread I actually wrote that it is an AMP Connector and not a fuse holder! Overkill really as it is a watertight AMP connector usually used in engine bay type of applications.

I'm very interested to hear your final diagnosis. My Antenna power cable was not connected at all to the radio so got no 12V but I got fairly good reception from the "stronger" radio stations. This indicates that the amplifier is not absolutely necessary.

I've now connected the power lead but haven't fitted the radio yet. I'm hoping for a vast improvement.

I can’t really tell any difference in sound quality with the amp on and off, so I guess it is broken. However a new unit costs £193.00!! So buying a new just to see if it is broken is not really an option. Anyone knows how to technically test it? I know Audi and Volvo have similar solutions for their cars, maybe try to use one of their amplifiers instead?

I was able to find an antenna pre-amp that was from a porsche 911 Carrera (I think). A glass shop should know what madel years had the glass antenna. There are lots of Porsches in wrecking yards. Good luck!
