348 engine - ultimate Fcar MPG ?

On hiway miles I get 27.817, driving rather mildly. I'm sure I could get it to 28mpg if I drove like my brother! That is an accurate # as I drove the same route back & forth using the same gas pump - not bad for a super car.

 

On my 850 mile drive from Salt City to LA, I was in the 27-28 range. I could have gotten better, if I drove slower, but driving at an average speed of 85 mph, with spike up to 120 tends to reduce the mpg.

Now if I drove the Lotus on a trip like this I would get in the low 30s, but do not know if I could take driving that car on a long haul.

Wow! How cool is that!! Sitting at 60 mph you would be awesome! Has anyone ever done that and figured out their enconomy?

 

Drove to San Diego one less than a 1/4 tank of gas - 120 miles - works out to between 25 and 30 mpg with a 22 gal tank. The best my Porsche TT could do was about 20-24 and that was if I did not keep the turbos spooled the whole trip. TT gets 13 in the city. Heh, 27 mpg in a Ferrari?! Suck it 355er's!

 

Almost makes me wish I had less power and no cheese graters......almost

 

Happy to pay the extra for fuel. 355's RULE!!!!!

(Not sure there is really that much difference in economy, I have never bothered to work it out.)

Any one tell me what 57 litres to 436 kms is in MPG?

 

ok I'll do the math, almost 18 mpg. Not bad for an exotic, and peanuts compared to the maintenance cost!

I was happy, got 24+ mpg in my heavily modded 400+ HP STi on the way to Pocono Sportscar today...

 

Hmmm that is the best i have ever got. Worst was 216kms to 54 liters, track day.....

 

Now you're talkin', 9.6 mpg! ok racing the STi in autocross I'm down in the 5-10 mpg range easy. Basically pouring gas through huge injectors trying to keep the 4 cyl. cool under high turbo boost I should just go for water or alcohol injection...but so much easier to just fill up at the pump

 

I hear ya Jay, I run service crew for Targa (Tarmac rally around NZ) The car is an escort with a 2ltr turbo cosworth engine, makes silly power and requires sill amounts of fuel. I have never been one to keep tabs on the MPG of cars but this escort would be the worst i have seen by far.

What STi you got? They are very common over here but i understand they are somewhat of a rare sight in your neck of the woods?

 

Sorry, thread hijack alert! they first showed up here in '04, that's my model year. Factory 2.5L 300HP, I've upgraded every bit for more power and less weight

I was spoiled by the 348 MPG. I used to fill up for a 2 day track weekend and run all weekend until the race late sunday. I would have the lightest possible car then and just enough gas to finish the sprint race and be near empty. Now in my Z06 I need to fill up the tank by lunchtime on the first day! Amazing.

 

You know gas prices are bad when you see MPG threads on Ferrarichat

 

I got exactly 20 MPG coming home from Redding CA to Monterey last year. I was driving a little over the speed limit that Sunday morning. I averaged 119MPH for the 301 mile trip with short stints up to 145+.

Who needs a hybrid.

 

I get 25 to 28 highway. WAYYYYY better then my truck at about 18mpg!!!!!

 

My friends and I were heading to the VA city Hillclimb. Going through the desert, averaging 120-160..... 28 mpg! I usually average 20 around town. I get 6 at the track!

 

It seems to me the 348 is at it's most efficient between 80 and 120 mph. There is a term for this, something to do with all the parts coming in to play the way they were designed.

 

The 40mpg that I get from my Honda Fit more than makes up for my 355. Viva Fratelli!

 

Funny this thread came up, just did 958 twice, there and back to Toronto, and was suprised at the great gas mileage!
