a user contacted me about separating 348 and 355. I told him I would post a poll. thanks.
My personal opinion is 'yes.' .... I love my 348 brothers... but just can't stand those guys that refuse to use the same hair gel I do... just kidding! (about the hair gel)!!! I think they should be separate.... but then, I think the 360 and 430 should be in separate sections, as well. Just my humble, usually ill-informed opinion resulting from a mis-spent youth. Mike
I say no. I have a 355 and I find that there is a good amount of material that I get exposed to in the 348 world that I would miss otherwise. Granted, I do feel as though the cars are apples and oranges, but good info nonetheless comes from both groups and I find no reason to separate. At the same time the 348/355 forum seems to have the most traffic by far and that may be reason to split it alone.
Except for the extra valve on the 355 and the graters and tail lights on the 348, aren't they the same car?
This again? Leave it as is, there's no real problem is there? I don't have a ton of time to spend on FChat and going to another forum to read posts from members I consider friends is not appealing. This is my take on the matter. Rob
Agreed; the cars are from the same "family" like the 206/246, 308/328, 360/430, 550/575 etc. There is quite a lot of cross-model info that is relevant and may be lost in the discussion if the forum is split.
Keep them together. Clearly our younger 355 brothers need guidance and protection. They've got enough going against them already!
I dont think anyone is loosing sleep over it. Wanna do something different? feed the hungry. I am one of them
As others have said, keep them together. They are more similar than they are diffrent. Some information posted about the 348 may apply to the 355 and vise-versa.
Rob... What was the basis of the original request? Other than the usual "my car is better than yours" banter I can't see a reasonable argument to separate them.
I like the idea of separating them. Most thread titles start w/ 355 or 348 in them anyway. This is supposed to be a model specific discussion. There are enough issues related to each model that seem unique to each model that appear to warrant separating them out. I often times find I'm wading through a discussion only to find out later that it's related to the car model I don't have, and feel that I've just wasted my time.
From a DIY perspective it is a little frustrating to read through a thread on an issue you are having only to find out that thread is about a 348 instead of a 355. But that's true on many 355 issues and applies to a 2.7 versus 5.2 car as well. Probably more common ground than not. Folks being more descriptive on thread titles would seem more important than a separate forum IMVHO.
Think of it as a vote with an opinion attached. I am surprised by the resistance of separating the threads. I don't see it as a competition of what car is Superior. Just a logical thing to do. Logic sometimes hurts. Human nature resists change. That is evident here.Once it happens folks will wonder why it didn't happen sooner.
Fort those who use the forum as a social media site, a click over the the 348 thread will enable you to stay in touch with friends. For those who use it as a reference and informational service for your car, they really should be separate threads.
What I mean is there is a voting button choice to make at the top of the thread. Posting a reply does not count towards the voting meter. You must select the yes or no button.
