Are the aftermarket FS Headers truly a Plug/Play install. 1. I have a 99 355 with Hyper-Flows and need to know if there is any modification needed to make this happen? 2. Can the original headers be removed and Fabspeeds installed with the engine in? 3. Are there any Mech/Elec componets that need to be removed in order to facilitate this swap? Since this will be my 1st time doing this, any FEEDBACK is greatly appreciate...
1. no 2.yes 3. I think the rear axles come out, but not sure. My shop did it. Hope this helps, good luck!
1. No* (I had to grind a flange hole slightly - 1mm on one header) 2. Yes, I did it and many others have 3. Yes, a few. The biggest pain for me was the oil tank but many said I didn't need to remove that. I just couldn't get the stock headers out without removing that. It is like a little puzzle. You need to remove radiator fans, exhaust pieces and potential airboxes and such if you need access from the top.
You will also need to heat wrap or ceramic coat FS headers if you don't want to cook your alternator, engine mounts, etc.
We did this job in FBB's garage (he has a lift) with normal tools and Ernie was even there, so you know the Stooges were in form. No engine out. Removed wheels and interior fender linings. Removed cooling fans for better access. Removed passenger oil reservoir tubing, not the reservoir if I recall. Requires some patience and a good share of cuss words. Of course, if you don't have your own Ernie, it could go faster.
Im taking it to my friends shop, whith a Typ Lift and numerous mechanic tools I will take pics once we get it going
I just replaced mine with Ferrari OEM headers. They are not NOS, but new and improved over original design. Ferrari has drastically reduced the price and I paid 2700 for them You don't need to reinvent the wheel with ceramic coatings and jerry rigged heat shields. They have the original design heat shield and the price includes the necessary flanges as well. When it is done you have a Ferrari part on your Ferrari.
I have had Fabspeed's headers, test pipes and muffler on my car for about a year and 10,000 miles with no trouble. The install was not super easy, but the posters here have already talked about the fans etc. My only real challenge in the install was that I needed to slightly enlarge one of the outer bolt holes in each flange to get them to slip over the studs. They come polished and it was a real crime to get them coated, but I did coat them black to reduce under hood temps. I also added some gold heat barrier foil from DEI on the axle and engine mount heat shields as well as on the ones provided by Fabspeed for the accessory drives. My laser thermometer tells me that the component temps are lower than with the stock system and I have had no issues with heat transfer failures so far, BUT I have test pipes rather than cats, so that has removed a huge heat source on it's own. All in all, I would do it again..LOVE the sound and am very happy with the quality.
I forgot about that. But now that I remember, we installed 360cs headers on Oz's car at the time. What ever the case it took us about few hours to get it done. You do need the wheels and fender liners off and out. Oh and, Oz does have a set of Fabspeeds on his car now.
Hey that's good news and 50 state legal too. The people republic of kalifornia is getting very smart about parts without E.O. numbers. They are trying to elevate their game to include techs with brains harder to fool. So be forewarned. These guys are looking for aftermarket headers and non-50 state cats. I would even be careful of using OEM headers and removing the factory heatshields and coating factory headers etc. It would be tough to convince the bureaucrats you are still OEM Ferrari.
This is very interesting. Could you please give the part number for these improved OEM headers. If they don't melt/crack now and the price has come down, this is the answer for me (retaining the heat shielding, 4 into 2 into 1 design etc.....). Thanks Bob in advance!
I don't know the answer to that Ernie. I asked 1) were these NOS. Answer was no 2) was the original design changed to correct the shortcomings of it? Answer was yes There is a 2 year warranty on them and at this price point of they last 20k miles like the originals did even that's fine. I feel better that I see the OEM part in there as I want my car to be as stock as it can be. The original heat shield design also offers peace of mind as well
My apologies. I pulled the invoice and the headers were 3624.00 not 2700.00 The part number is 70001695 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
No problem Bob. If they have been improved, $3624 (or the equivalent in euros) is still a good price as far as I am concerned. I am investigating on my side! Thanks for the quick reply. Ron
Never ever seen or heard of a Ferrari PN70001695.....wonder who made that one up Any detailed pics????????????????? ANSA has not made any mods to their 355 products..... I have an idea of what is goin on but will not comment on this further.
That part number is on the invoice I have the box that the headers came in with Ferrari tape and markings on it I can see ANSA on the headers How are you so positive ANSA has not changed anything? Where did you get that information from? Classic Coach is an authorized Ferrari repair facility and get their parts directly from Ferrari which is where my information came from. What are you implying? I will take whatever pictures you want. What would you like to see?
When the day comes that I need to replace mine, I'll use OEM headers as well. This winter I plan to install hyperflow CATs so hopefully with those and the fact I have no muffler, my headers will last longer...
