I am planning to dyno the F355 Challenge tommorow and I am wondering where to get the RPM signal. Usually you get it from a plug wire but I took a quick look and I found the injector wires but not plug wires. Anyone know the best place to get an RPM/Tach signal?

I would think the tach signal wire would be best, but I have no idea if its location. Anyone?

Be sure to dyno your car in 5th, because on the 355 that is the gear that has the closest ratio to 1:1. Let us know what it ends up putting down.

We have seen issues with this. Generally the shop we go to does it observtionally because the engine has too much interference. Hot temp plus bundled wiring plus cam cover channel means bad signal. Tach sensor seems best.

The coils should give you a good signal. They are under the side shields where you see the electrical warning (not sure if the challenge cars are different in this regard.)

We used the coils mounted on the passenger side in the engine bay just in front of the suspension. We dyno'd in 4th gear initially and then in 5th gear. The car made 292.04 rwhp / 222.15 lb-ft torque. A little lower than I had expected. It thought 330 rwhp would be proper. I didn't run the car down the highway to warm up first. Instead I had it idle until the water and oil temps got up. Not sure if that makes a difference. Also, my car has 360 challenge headers, no cross over pipe, cats and a custom exhaust. I'm tempted to bolt the 355 challenge exhaust back on and see what it does. Think it will make a difference?

That sounds right for a stock car. Highest I've seen reported for a stock car is around 325rwhp. Not sure on the exhaust, but the routing of the bypass may improve exhaust scavenging by letting the two banks mix. The bypass cat is a different material than the primary cats so may be less restrictive. Worth a shot.

That does sound a touch low. With all the exhaust bits I would have expected at least 305-310bhp. That said, your butt doesn't really notice a difference between 292 and 310, you would need a difference of about 30bhp before you really notice a difference. Torque looks good though at 222lbs, most are right around there.

Lastly, you never mentioned what type of dyno you ran this on, was it a Mustang or a Dynojet? If those above numbers are from a Mustang dyno then you are in great shape as Mustang dynos naturally read a good bit lower than dynojets.

It was on a Dynojet. In my opinion Mustang dyno's don't read correctly - too much operator influence and variables. You can almost make them read whatever you want by changing the input variables. The Dynojet is much simpler with limited variables to input - all of which are related to environment. No hocus pocus guessing car weights, etc. There are good reasons why racing bodies use Dynojet's to verify power. Too much inconsistency with the others.

I dyno'd with the local Porsche club. They had several stock cars that dyno'd too. A 2006 Carrera (315 HP at the flywheel as per Porsche) made 289 rwhp with an exhaust and intake. A bone stock Carrera S (355 HP as per Porsche) made 308 RWHP. These don't sound out of line for them.

I completely agree. I loathe mustang dynos.

Porsche quotes bhp figures as 'minimum' bhp rather than ferrari who quote based on either lies or absolute best possible power for a particular engine.

On a dyno for a stock 355 290....310 rhwp is normal.
Only a few 355 Challenge with ported heads dynowed max 320 rhwp!

Has anyone dyno'd any of these kits TODA offers?

Some quick math brings the total for the "Matsu" spec package to $36k USD with current conversion (4.278m yen). 110hp for 36k...naturally aspirated though. :)

With the falling yen it's getting cheaper by the day. Search the forums and there is some discussion on the plus/minus of a race built engine.
