So this summer, my wife and I decided to stay in our house after considering a move in order to what we decided was a move to keep up with the Jones's. One of our requirements on a new house and one of the things lacking on our current house was a third car garage. We decided to stay and add a garage.
I interviewed a few designers and landed on a sketch late June. After getting a few redicilous bids, a buddy of mine convinced me to contract everything myself in an attempt to save some money. In early September, I started working out all the details with my architect. About this time I started looking for lifts to help plan the design of my garage. Dave sent me a PM and told me he was an engineer by trade but could assist with anything in the design of the garage as he just also recently built his commercial building. I was suprised and impressed and of course took him up on it. After 4 months, millions of phone calls (most before 7am in the morning), tons of email, numerous texts, several bumps along the way.....Dave stuck with me and basically walked me through this entire thing along with my buddy here in town. Having Daves expertise to help me was amazing. I challenged my architect many times and to his avail after researching, he would usually agree with Dave. Thank you Dave for all the help with this project. The lift and interior bits will get done this summer! Im worn out and just glad to be done for now......well except for the gas heater which gets installed next week.

Here it is, built into my existing home, cathedral ceilings, 6 inches of concrete with rebar and fiber mesh, insulated with insulation and sound deadining material and a sidle lift opener a d garage that tracks up the slope.

    You suck !!!!
    With the most respect :)

I need a two car built in the back driveway with an upstairs for a cave.
Just trying to find a reliable builder that will listen to what I want in LA sucks.

Looks great. I will be adding a new garage in the future. Should be fun and also draining.

    Looks great!

Did you put in drainage for those cold weather washing/detailing sessions?

No, the EPA will not let you in residential. I tried and I used a tin can to cover it thinking it would ne a thin layer over the can I could chip away and put the drain cap on but they stopped by before my pour and called me out on it. Inwas just gonna drain it to the street same as when I wash it in the driveway. Makes no sense to me.

It's because they are worried about oil or gas getting into the storm sewer. You may not do it, but the next guy may.

In my area, garage drains are allowed but they must drain into a dry well on the property. This way, you contaminate your own property if you drain oil, etc.

I am disappointed in the way things have ended for Dave Rocks.

I do not know him personally, but I have exchanged a few emails with him in the past. He has been very helpful, and his post/thread history here on FCHAT reflects that.

It's unfortunate, hopefully he will have a change of heart and will come back to FCHAT.....but in the interim, I wish him all the best.
