I just got back from a short drive, and while I was getting on a freeway on a circular on ramp turning at a fairly good speed (maybe. Around 35-40 mph, second gear, 4-5k rpm), brake light on the instrument panel flickered on for few seconds, and went off as the car straightened. *I was able to reproduce this 3 times, exactly on same situations; never comes on when the car is going straight or making slower turns.

Is it because the brake fluid is low, and when the car is turning, it tilts and gets below the threshold level?

Hope it's not a major problem.

Thanks for your input in advance!

when you open the front bonnet/hood, between the trunk and the windshield right in front of the driver there is a plate with three thumbscrews, remove them and check the brake fluid level.. I'd start there. brake pads ok thickness? if too thin might be shorting or sending warning.. just a thought. good luck!

Thanks. I did check brake fluid level; it's little less than half way between min & max level. Brake pads were just checked at the dealer last week, and was told fine.

Will try adding a bit of brake fluid tomorrow, and see if it happens again.

I think this is normal. In a turn, g forces can causes the fluid to develop some centripetal movement and a dry spot to form on the sensor.

The same thing happens in my car when taking a tight turn.

That's what I was suspecting also. Anyway, took it in to the dealer today, and they checked out the fluid level, pads, and the sensor function of the fluid & pads which all checked out fine. Drove tight onramps again which reproduced the problem, took it back to the dealer & asked them to add just a bit more fluid which they did, and now the brake warning light doesn't come on during tight onramps turns any more!

They think it's possibly because the sensor is going bad, and recommend changing the sensor if it happens again rather than keep topping the fluid. Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

I suppose it could be a sensor but they usually either give warning or not. They "sense" by having the outer soft plastic coating rub through when they contact the rotor, and then complete a circuit. They can't be re-used once the coating wears through. Sometimes they get damaged and give a false reading, but again, when they do they stay on, and don't go back and forth. They're only like $30 for the part. They just plug in so could be replaced easily. http://www.************/Girodisc-Front-Pad-Wear-Sensor-Wires-for-Ferrari-360-Modena_p_2056.html

I think the sensor they were referring is attached to the cap of brake fluid reservoir? They checked sensors for the pads and supposedly were fine.

    Thanks.

Ah. That one. Then it is possible the sensor's going bad if the fluid level is up and yet you're still getting a reading.

Glad to hear the fluid level sensor is the culprit! :) Not sure if the sensor uses a magnetic switch that activates when the level gets too low...

This is a totally different sensor. You are referring to the front brake PAD sensor which indicates that the front brake pad has worn too thin.

The original post is about the brake FLUID sensor.

I wouldn't bother changing the FLUID sensor unless the warning light is flickering when not pulling g's in a turn.

Right. I was too hasty and didn't read carefully.

I feel the same way; I'll change the sensor only if it starts to come on during "normal" driving.

Thank all for your input. Owning a 360 is a whole new ball game compare to my Porsches & Bimmers!

I am having a similar problem (2004 F1). I removed the cover in the hood to reveal the brake fluid reservoir area just as a period fluid check (first time I did this since I owned this car). I saw the fluid was at max. I didnt actually open the cap, as I could see the level through the container. I did however push the "press for level indicator check" button atop the cap. That didnt do anything for me so I just let it be. Anyone know how that button is supposed to work? Doesnt say in manual.

I had never gotten a BRAKE light before on the dash. The first drive after I checked the fluid, I got the brake light. Pads seem fine. Brake pedal feels normal. I opened the brake reservoir again and this time opened the cap completely to make sure about the level, and it was at max. Still getting brake light.

Is this maybe a sensor problem?

Pull off the front wheels, check the pad thickness and make sure the sensor is not making contact with the rotor. The brake pad sensor is quite thick and will flicker a warning when the pads look just fine. If you are having uneven pad wear the pad you see on the outside of the wheel may be a bit thicker than the inside pad. The inside pad is where the sensor is. Check the contact points.

    Hope this helps.

    Chris.
