A little nugget for you guys this fine Tuesday morning! A collection of triple black limited edition V8s and thoughts by the owner on each one: https://www.classicdriver.com/en/article/cars/guess-who-just-challenged-ferraris-toughest-street-gang I love that black CS w yellow buckets! Enjoy!
Nice! Thanks for posting. This is the black CS with the yellow interior. A very rare car with the lexan windows and the yellow alcantara. Challenge-Stradale.com - Ferrari 360 CS VIN 139341
Nice article. Unfortunately, it only reinforces the view that the car must have crazy low miles to be valuable. “It’s very difficult to prove if a 1960s car has done 7,000 miles from new and thus mileage is generally insignificant, but with these cars originality is key and mileage is king.” So, they repeat the contradiction that these are fantastic cars to drive, but you can't drive them or you'll kill their value (the reason they're valuable being that they're fantastic cars to drive). This drives me crazy! I guess the idea is what, put the car on the trailer, drive to the mountains or the track, drive 5-10 spirited miles (but not too fast or you may hurt it), and then put it away until you're ready to do it again in a few months? Grrrr
Dave, I agree with your sentiment. However, let's be realistic, one can't expect to have their car increase in value when you're enjoying it, right? I bought my car with full intention of driving enjoyment and do so every chance I get. With full knowledge that this enjoyment costing me money. I mean, what enjoyment doesn't cost you money in this world?
Nice article and superb collection and pics! "In comparison to the softly styled 360, were not sure the 430 Scuderia is as aesthetically pleasing, with its high haunches and sharp edges." Surprisingly, out of three in this collection, the Scuderia does look the tamest. The Scud needs to be lowered to get that wide and low profile whereas the Speciale and CS can get away with near factory heights. The lexan windows on the CS would look incredible on a Scuderia. Perhaps maybe even the mirrors too. I feel like they should've gave the Speciale a more race inspired looking mirror. The brown suede on the Speciale is off the hook. The only thing missing in this collection is a street legal 355 Challenge, which is really the hardest one to find. Image Unavailable, Please Login
nope, barring any unforeseen catastrophic circumstances, the Scuderia will not be leaving the stable, ever @Dave, I hear you on that conundrum...I chose to enjoy what I have, with the little time us mortals have on this earth, which for me, is driving. But I totally understand that for other folks, collection is just as gratifying as driving, and to those folks, good on them. They have a win-win. I will admit, had I been able to pick up another CS again, it would probably be the one I'd look at in the garage and the Scuderia would still be the one I would drive on a regular basis.
Shineken, if you look at the 3 together, the Scuderia (to my eyes) is this blend of both old cs and new Speciale...with the slimmer, more modern headlights, aggressive rear dual exhaust setup and race vents. From the front end, I see the CS as smiling, Scuderia smirking and Speciale an angry catfish, if that makes any sense. This is me. I drive my CS. I love it and I've made money on it. Not as much as if I didn't drive but I don't care. The opposite logic is buy a "one of a million" 458 and lose money whether you drive it or not? Driving your CS is still a better deal.
well, in the 360 thread one might also say, that a road legal 360 Challenge is missing! at least if one aims at speaking about rare things - try to imagine the experience of a ride in a road going brute 360CH!
The best way t enjoy and experience these cars IS to actually drive them, and frankly..... at speed! As time goes by, it will be less about milage and more about condition and restoration.
Thanks for the link... as an owner of a 16M, I completely agree with the allure of these special cars.
"unlike the Speciale, it’s easier to find the raw edge of the Scuderia on the road, delivering an almost F40-like thrill." that says it all
As a kid I never thought to myself "gee if I don't play with my toy, it'll be more valuable in a few years". A Ferrari is a toy for grown ups. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes, adding miles to any car decreases value. My issue is how sensitive Ferraris are to miles. In Ferrariland, low miles is under 5000 miles, which for an older car means hardly driving it. I don't need to put on 15k miles per year, but it'd be nice if I could drive 3k a year without significantly decreasing the value of the car. I don't view the car as an investment, but I still don't like hurting its value. I don't think other cars are this sensitive to mileage.
Speaking bluntly, if you cannot afford the depreciation associated with using the car as you wish, you cannot afford the car. Counterintuitively, putting up the cash simply to acquire the car is only minimally relevant to determining whether you're financially ready. If you have to second-guess whether to actually drive the car for mileage reasons, sell now. Unless you're a dealer, stick to your day job and make sufficient money to fully fund your hobby. Exotic car ownership is not owed to anyone; if it's not affordable yet due to depreciation concerns, that's life. Increase your income or downgrade to what you can reasonably afford. Or buy your 1:1 3D poster, keep the accrued miles at 0, and quit complaining. Frankly, a Scud is far more affordable than a brand new AMG, even when putting miles on the Ferrari.
Eh? How do you figure that? Certainly has not been my experience. German cars are very reliable in gerneral. Ferraris are not in the same league. Parts and labor are also far more expensive and have longer lead times. I would never compare Ferrari ownership to Merc or BMW. The experience is totally different from top to bottom. As for the rest of your post; Dave doesn't need a lecture from you.
From a depreciation perspective, a ~$200k new AMG can cost you $50k in year one, even with low usage. Similarly, ask 991TTS owners how they're doing with their reliable cars that have dropped 25-30% off MSRP in the first year. I've put xx,xxx miles on my Scuderias and have taken my lumps. The fact of the matter is that no one will pay the same or similar for a 5,000 mile Scud as a 25,000 mile one, not even Dave, so why complain? The delta is simply the cost of our hobby. You can always get ahead of the game and buy a higher mileage car if you want to drive.
+1 agree 100%! wait?? did a newbie just roast an upper classmen?? Just an observation. But always seems the guy with the fewest posts/unsubscribed memeber gets attacked. IMO doesn't make their post less important or unviable. Probably the people that post too much need to get a life and log off fchat sometimes. Spend more time driving ur car(s) I swear im about to drive off as I type this haha cheers
