Hello F-chatters. First time posting here, long time lurker. So I've been waiting to submit some of my videos here until I felt they were going to be of value to the Ferrari community. I feel like I've finally hit that point so I thought I'd share my "how to" video in which I replaced the OEM manifolds on my F430 with aftermarket headers. I also wrapped the headers with titanium wrap so that may be of interest as well. I know there are some awesome resources like Aldus Voice's site or even a few threads here on F-chat, but I really didn't see anyone actually have a YouTube video on it... If you like it, I have a few more how to's on my channel (changing the wheel bearing, changing the oil) and I'm sure more will be on the way soon. https://youtu.be/5NmZdzba9I8
Hi Dan. Welcome to the fold. Good to see a Ferrari owner not afraid to tackle some DIY projects and post videos. Even if the oil change was a bit of a mess, it shows the realistic side of ownership. crazee111
Ha! You saw that one too eh? Yeah, it honestly almost scared me it came out so damn fast. And thanks for the welcome. I didn't want to be "that guy" and just blast my videos on every last message board just to get exposure. I wanted to make sure they were going to be useful first... Then plaster them everywhere. LOL! Here's my maintenance playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTQrm5ziMSDgHe471r2XmQwVnU5LRNJnS It's got the oil change, wheel bearing, fixing the sideview mirror, etc...
Dan, I was considering commenting on youtube but this is more cozy... As a recent F430 purchaser, I have been loving the content! The header removal was my favorite video so far since i'm about to tackle that same job. FML! Please, please, please, continue to add value to this community by continuing. Al PS. Why did you go with Pheonix over Agency power and have you considered an S-Line Xpipe instead of what you have now? The reason why I ask is that it comes across deep and throaty currently and with the S-Line you would get a closer (higher pitch liter bike) sound of that of the 355 in your "Mini-Car" show video
Ha yes, this is more "cozy." Less riff-raff. First off, thanks for watching my videos! I plan to keep on making them as honestly I just find it fun. I did look at the Agency Power ones, and honestly, it came down to price. The Phoenix were only $1200. To me, that's how much headers should cost. That's already more expensive than most non-supercar headers so it's not a quality issue at that point, it's a straight up Ferrari tax. I have looked into the S-Line. I'm very very tempted by it. At the moment, I'm done dropping coin on upgrades, but we'll see what the future holds. And oh MAN! I still think the 355's sound the best. It's just amazing. I'm gonna try to get some more videos of that car.
I totally agree with you on header cost. I started my car career with mustangs and camaro's where a set of headers would be sub $800, then I graduated to corvettes where headers cost $1300 or less, then Porsche 996 Turbos where stock exhausts cost anywhere from $2-$7k but a fraction of that used... When I first started looking for F430 headers I started to guesstimate what they would cost and man was I surprised! Fabspeed asking $4k is down right RIDICULOUS! Agency asking $2700 is slightly less offensive but still way too high. On top of that, I won't even try to guess how much margin there is in a set of $1500 blankets. Luckily, We are the new wave of cost conscious F430 owners that demand more bang for the buck. Al
Yeah, the blankets was a complete joke to me... $1500+ vs the less than $60 I paid for 2 rolls of titanium header wrap tape. I completely agree with you, I want to get good value when replacing parts on the car. I understand why some people don't care about the Ferrari tax... but I'm not that wealthy.
I hope the top speed pro header I got for $800 is any good....lol. But yeah Dan, great videos thanks for sharing . This is Rick from your YouTube comments Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
$800?! Damn, how'd I not find those! I bet they are just fine. Hey Rick! Thanks for commenting here and there.
Nice work Dan! I would recommend that you get a compressor and air tools. You do a lot of DIY on your vehicles and an air ratchet would have help save some time on this project. Well, I have yet to install my fabspeed header and test pipes....I'll make sure to have some Miller Lite on hand! Oh, keep us updated on any CEL light if any.
OMG Dan, how did you control the cussing so well? I did the upper trans mount at the same time when I did mine. Thank goodness there are no videos or they would have to be RRR rated! Cheers to a great upgrade and the great feeling of DIY. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm at work right now, but I definitely plan to watch this and your other videos later tonight. It seems like you have some great content and this could be a very valuable resource for F430 owners like myself who are budget conscious. Thanks for posting!
Thanks for the video, Dan! I was actually going to buy your car, was dwelling on the negotiated price for a week and when I decided to accept, you bought the car literally that morning! Thanks for haunting me on fchat as well
I just watched your Header Replacement video and the Oil Change. You're the man dude! Doesn't get more honest and real than this. Thanks for sharing.
I have a compressor, but for some unknown reason I don't have an air-ratchet. I have no idea why, but I'll get one immediately. And yes, Miller Lite is required for wrenching. I don't think the CEL will come on as the car already has a tune and is de-catted. So theoretically removing the pre-cats would make no difference to the computer. LOL! There was a substantial amount of editing to remove some of the cussing. Also, for the first 10 hours or so, it was just me so I didn't record everything... Even so, I still had over 3.5 hours of footage to edit down to 20-something minutes! That was by far my biggest editing job yet. You are most welcome and let me know once you watch it if you have any criticism. I'm always looking for feedback on how to improve. That was you?! Chris told me that there was someone else that was very interested and was probably about to make an offer. I negotiated with them that Friday night, then drove over Saturday morning. Here's the best part, I had just had back surgery the week before! I had to stop taking Percocet the day before just so I wasn't going to be all loopy driving down to San Antonio and back. Let's just say it was not the most comfortable ride I've had in life. Getting in and out of the Ferrari with back just out of surgery was quite painful. Luckily, it was the fastest negotiation I've ever had on a car... Chris and Harrison were awesome to work with. I jumped on it fast because it was spec'd out exactly what I would have wanted... Well, if you ever want a ride, let me know. And sorry that I got it from under you. Ok, not really that sorry. LOL! Hell yea! MURICA! Thanks! I am trying my best to just lay it out there. I figure showing the screw-ups is just as important as showing everything going all perfect... Because let's face it, it never goes perfectly when working on cars. Thanks for all the replies! I genuinely appreciate it and am glad to hear you are finding the videos useful. That was one of my main goals when starting them. I was disappointed that most YouTubers with supercars are (and forgive the gross over-simplification): 1. Very young, kinda immature, and that's all they do, no "real" life so to speak... 2. Afraid to work on it themselves, or are too busy/wealthy/fill-in-the-blank-excuse which I totally respect, but that's not me. 3. Kinda ******-baggy and I just can't stand watching them. So I wanted to give the perspective of a "regular guy" with a fairly normal job that has a supercar, isn't afraid to work on it, and definitely not afraid to drive it... If y'all have any feedback or criticisms, please let me know. I value this community's opinions a lot given the audience and I'm always looking to improve.
Awesome video Dan! Great to see owners diving in and getting hands on doing some modifications and maintenance.
Thanks! More owners should get dirty. It's part of the enjoyment of having a fun car! But I suppose if you are not mechanically inclined, then it's probably better to stay clear... Or at least learn on a cheaper car first. LOL!
Haha yes, that was me. The red insert on the daytona seat really made me fall in love, the HRE wheels (I had the same on my Aston that I was trading in). I ended up getting another car, but I admit there times here and there that I wish mine was red
Well I'm glad to hear you ended up getting one. I must admit, I fell in love with the interior not being beige like most rosso corsa's. The red inserts on the Daytona's really sets it off.
Hey Rick, I too just bought the Top Speed F430 headers after lots of research...they came back from Zircotec yesterday....so $800 + $100 import duty + $600 zircotec coating....they'll be going on at Easter, coupling up to stock cats and Capristo Race exhaust. Not too sure what to expect other than lots more noise, a few extra bhp, and peace of mind! Thanks for the vid Dan, very helpful!!
