Consequences of not waiting for the "OK" to start on F430 ?

If you don't wait you don't give the car enough time to complete it's self checks. For the sake of 10 seconds it's definitely worth the wait.

My wife did the same thing the first time she fired up the CS. I was told the problems is that the start button controls a "cam line" that fires up everything in sequence. If you hit the start button too soon or don't hold the start button long enough, not everything turns on. You are then basically driving the car with half the engine on.

 

Ouch, I own both a 360 and a 500C.

Please no jokes about the Cavalino Rampante putting its hooves down and turning into a Mustang, that would make three strikes on me.

 

I would also check fuel cap plus unlikey for a number but could have been a little water in the fuel

 

Sounds like possibly O2 sensor?

 

I keep the car sitting for about 10 seconds even after the Ok sign appears before hitting the start button (especially if it has been sitting for a couple of days) as I found the car idles much better when the various systems are given a good amount of time to launch and get ready to fire up.

 

Not waiting long enough (few seconds after OK) or having to hit the start button a second time seems to result in half the engine running. It's pretty obvious when it happens and simple to remedy. Shut off and go through the start properly. I don't think any harm is done (though one shouldn't drive that way).

 

I start mine all the time without waiting. Never an issue. It is a stick however.

Waiting longer gives time to energize the ECU / fuel pump properly perhaps ?

 

Might be worthwhile to do an ecu reset just for the sake of having peace of mind.
Its only a 20 minute procedure and it will surely benefit the car and clear and roughness.

Couple of times with my manual I forgot to wait and got the misfire issue. First time freaked me out and I spent 5 mins trying to nurse the car home. Finally stopped, turned off, did proper restart and all is fine. From then on, easy to recognise the cause. Simply turn off and restart properly.

 

My experience is that this can also occur if you double press the Start button. In all my other cars you don't need to continue to hold the start button, you just press it once and it keeps cranking until the car starts. I spaced out and did this in the Ferrari once, and as I was letting off the button I remembered and pressed it again. The car started, but in limp mode. Shutting it down and restarting cured the problem.

Check fuel filler cap is on tight enough - if its not the system thinks there's a air leak in the fuel tank and goes into Slow Down.

 

That's scary! Can running on half a bank damage the engine? Just curious. If the 430 fires wrong at start up I turn her of immediately. It sounds so bad.
