With the 458 Italia out now for last few years, how come the used prices on the older F430 cars have not dropped much yet? I can afford a 360 but would much prefer a F430 car.

How low do you want them to get? I have seen several 430 examples that have blown my mind w/ how inexpensive they are.

I helped with a 2005 three pedal that I drove for a week (with less than 2000 miles) that went for $119k retail. I have seen versions w/ regular miles on them sell for nearly $100k retail.

I think that is plenty low enough.

Seems 05/06 berlinetta 430s are trading quite cheaply. Almost like there is a bit of a growing rift between 05/06 and the later cars. I believe 07 and later berlnetta still command $140k+ (do I have that right folks??). 07 and later spiders still hold a significant premium to the earlier brethren with 08 and 09 cars obviously at the highest rung. But let's look at some of the reasons why:
1.) Spider premium always remains in effect. Sort of a foregone conclusion I guess.
2.) Many of the later cars still trade with power warranties in effect which has some real dollar value attached to it.
3.) CCB'S as standard on the 08/09 models and that too is real dollar value.
4.) On the earlier cars, greater likelihood that they're no longer 1-owner cars which disproportionately affects value and drags prices downward for the vintage generally.

I think the takeaway is that as time goes on there is a greater spread in the range of offerings for sale and therefore a growing spread in the prices of 430s in the secondary market.

Have you seen how many are listed on eBay? Prices were actually lower here last December.

I've noticed that F430 prices have pretty much settled with the exception of the higher mileage cars and really early cars (2005's). And, 360 prices are just stuck.

Personally, I think it's because it's Spring and the economy (and stock market) are doing better. I think the base of buyers who want an F car is expanding.

The F430 big depreciation happened in 2010-11. You didn't think they were going to drop 40/50K a year forever, did you?

The big winner is the 16M which still leads the top of the F430 pack. You'll pay the same for some of them as you would an new 458 coupe at MSRP. I paid 265K for my 458. There's not too many 16m's for less than that. you'll pay 80-90 grand more for a 16M than a 2008 F430 spider. That's a huge difference.

If you bought a 16M, you avoided a lot of the F430's depreciation.

This line of thread is getting old lately. Buy or don't buy if you try to time the market you may get burned, plus there is the wildcard of service and unexpected break downs.

+1 ... IMO they are already low at the moment, don't expect them to drop further anytime soon.

I think they may drop a little further after the summer. I haven't been tracking very long but if you believe what everyone says they may go up a little more in the spring and summer and then dip a little lower in the fall. It seems to me that every model eventually backs up against the previous model till they get within 20k or so. I don't know just my opinion really. What do all the expert market watchers think?

If you look at the 355 bracket ($50k to $70k) and the 360 bracket ($70k to $90k for most good cars) its reasonable to postulate the 430 bracket in 3-4 years could look like $90k to $110k for most good cars.

My local dealer, who is connected to several Ferrari dealerships, mentioned to me a couple of months back that he's seeing quite a few 430 trade-ins this year, as clients who bought them new and kept them several years are moving up to the 458. Earlier he had mentioned that demand for the 355 has just fallen to nearly nothing, and the guys in my income range are all looking for 360's now (Which is what I'm looking to replace my 456M with).

It seems that when the NEWEST model-year of a Ferrari reaches ten years old, that's when the major depreciation is all but done. The '04 360's turn ten next year, so I bet 360 prices have gotten plenty low. The 430 is a much newer car, so they will still come down more, you just have to be patient.

    Cheers,

    George

As long as 458 prices are up there the prices of 430 and 360 will remain strong..

I think once 458 coupes start to get out of factory warranty and power cube periods they will drop quite a bit. That will likely be around when the 458 successor hits. At that point it may be the next real shake up for 430's. But since 458's are so expensive to start it may be awhile.

That is my point earlier. Some people won't until they feel the 430 bottomed out.

Best guess is 430 will bottom when the 458 successor hits the market and a second blip when it's spider hits.

Dealers usually start this kind of threads to justify their prices. We shouldn't fall for it.

430 Prices will only go down when 458 prices come down and so on and so on!!! However I will never sell my 430 6 speed manual... I drove a 430 F1 this weekend and a galardo E gear this weekend.... ahhhhh so happy with my decision to get a 6 speed :)

I started a thread under silver about pricing threads, seems there are so many people hoping, wishing for a fire sale that ain't gonna happen. They put together spread sheets and analyze every option, mileage, color, etc. every week a new thread starts in this section - it certainly does get old and annoying.

Compare this withe the MSRP costs of a new F430 and F430 Spider and you'll see they're nearly approaching half which is heavy on the depreciation curve

True they are down. Not true that it is heavy on depreciation. Cars, all cars, go down at about 10% per year on a declining balance, there is very little variance. That makes 5 years just under 50%, and that is true if it is year 1-5, years 6-10, or any other span. You can argue more depreciation the first year and all of that "conventional wisdom" but that doesn't make it true. Take MSRP for any car, subtract 10%, and see what 1 year old cars are getting.

I may get a 360 Spyder as my first F-car. For now, I am buying a house first and then can get the first prancing pony for my stable. I think that 360 are good buy right now and the depreciation hit has already bottom out for most part.
