Before I start this thread I want to say a big, actually a huge thank you to Aldous, my rollover valves on my 2001 360 spider needed to b changed, one was leaking and it would throw a code once every few hundred km saying small evap leak, very annoying. So I started to look for a thread on how to remove the top off but to no avail there was nobody out there who did it and took pics on how to so I emailed Aldous and he generously sent the disk to me with the procedure on how to, thank you very much and here is the step by step.http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1795607&stc=1&d=1383231356
#1) remove the seats, takes about 20 min, Allan keys (6mm), 3 bolts are easy, just the one in front by the console takes a little bit of time, every bolt had a rectangular shim, don't lose one and take the seatbelt off, 17mm(take plastic cover off first)

#2) Remove the rear trunk, about 15 min work, need 2 guys, first thing you have to release the retainer clips to take off the gas strut, very simple, just take a pick tool and put in between and pull it out only half way(do not pull the c-clip all the way out) and gently pull out the shock from the ball it is connected to. After that put something to hold the roof up, we used a plastic rod we had and then simply use a 13 mm and take the bolts off holding the trunk, be carefull when pulling the trunk out, there may b shims in there, my left side had 2 and my right side had one(go figure why, I don't know)

#3)Remove all the engine side shields, also an allan key, take you about 20 min, b careful not to let any bolts fall down(I lost 1), the smaller shield is direct bolt in but the bigger shield one closer to the top, you don't have to remove the bolts just loosen them because the shields slide in between, we didn't know that so we ended up removing them but from the pics you can see that they are like a C.

#4) Go to the inside now and remove the side pillars, they are simply in with a clips so use a panel tool and gently pull them off and then remove the bottom carpet compartments which is also attached by allan bolts

Nice post. I'm relieved. Judging from the title I thought you were going to start with:

Step One: Park your 360 Modena in a dry place.
Step Two: Put a new metal cutting blade in your Sawzall.

Just so I understand you had to remove the top to replace the roll over valves because the car was throwing a code for evaporative small leak?

I was so interested in this thread until I got to the part where in part one it explained this was for a evaporative leak in the top seals and then I felt sick. Just got word today I have the same problem. Car was smoked and it was discovered that one of the four seals is leaking under the top pan. So I just gave the ok to go ahead and remove the top and replace all four seals and any other gaskets for the fuel system so that it will not need to be removed again. I can't wait for the bill my estimate has now risen considerably for the repair. What a bad design by Ferrari not having access points to fix these if ever a problem. I think my next car will be a coupe but I do love driving top down.

    The fun of ownership.

The bright side I can promote that when I do finally sell the car that this has been done selling point.

As i know, you do not need to remove the top for this issues on spider model after 2003. Ferrari made a update .

If it came down to it, I think I'd be tempted to review that update and research applying it to my 2002.

Yes you are right because all the other earlier models have this problem. We actually found that one of the roll overs was already replaced and one seal as well already. No access points make it very difficult and I am glad they learned from our cars they needed a change.
