Hi, I just picked up an 06 F430 coupe in September. I have been reading various threads and really enjoy the knowledge (and occasional humor) in the postings. I am thinking about installing an aftermarket GPS unit such as the Clarion NZ503 (Clarion U.S.A. | NZ503 ). Does anyone have experience with installing DIY aftermarket GPS/stereos? What are the pro's and cons of such units? The car currently has the factory hi-power hifi with subwoofer ($2062 option) and I quite how it sounds. Just that I would like an integrated navigation/stereo/Bluetooth set up. Thanks in advance for your help.
looks easy as long as you get harness figured out. car nav sucks though, i use my iphone instead. no maps to update and search is much easier. i also hate flip up head units
Thanks. I am not crazy about flip up either. Thought I ask anyway. Probably will stay with the stock stereo and use iPhone or a Garmin when I need to.
I have a two UE Boom speaker at my CF door shelves, dual connected to my iPhone5, which is in turn connected to my Pebble watch. So my Stereo/Siri/Voice Nav/Speaker Phone is accessible on my wrist. Super geek mod, but keeps the interior free of clutter and no installation necessary.
Search this forum for my post on replacing the CD changer with a Blackberry bluetooth receiver and adding a custom mount for an iPad mini. Best of all possible worlds and I can introduce you to the guy who makes the mounts.
Found your thread Eric. Awesome installation. I live too far from Portland but will try a similar installation here in LA. Thanks.
Does the '06 have factory Bluetooth? My '05 spider does. It allows phone calls and allows Google maps to give turn by turn directions over the radio. If I want to see a screen I just bought a suction cup clip to put my iPhone on the dash to see too.
was looking at this as well but i really dont want a flip screen. my 06 needs an nice deck that will complement the rest of the car.
Alpine 149BT. Just installed one in my Diablo. Can even change the illumination color to match the green of the dash at night.
I noticed only a rear USB, not a front. Would it be good to have a front USB to allow for plugging in non-bt (older gen) iPods?
Kenwood makes a unit with both a front and rear USB. On my Alpine unit I ran a USB cable to inside the glove box where you can plug in your device and then have a place store your thumb drive or iPod or whatever. I would like two USB ports and initially tried the Kenwood unit but the display becomes unreadable in bright sunlight so got the Alpine instead. Steve Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Yeah, I had a similar problem with the Kenwood in my Z06. I did noticed I really didn't read the screen to much as mostly I streamed Pandora from phone or IPod and controlled the tunes from those devices.
I have JVC el kameleon kd avx77 unit - it has the ability to show the iPhone screen (i.e. Navigation) on the device screen, has no badging (it's completely touch-screen) and has Bluetooth and satellite radio inputs. Had it installed for about $800 including all attachments
I have been looking at Pioneer units to replace my Becker too. This one seems to be about the most non-busy display I can find that supports my ipod. High output too and it has 200,000 color variations so I am sure I can get the display to match my interior. Pioneer DEH-8600BH Image Unavailable, Please Login
I fitted an Erison ES 1023. Loaded with features that the big brand names don't have, and at a bargain price. Performance is good.
