I've owned my car for 4 years now & never realized my F1 reverse lever was broken.

As a future reliability mod I purchased a Hill Engineering reverse lever from Ricambi.

I searched through the forum & found some great "how to" write ups & decided to replace it.

I was shocked to find both lower tabs & bushings missing.

After installing the Hill Engineering lever I discovered that your supposed to lift the lever then pivot it back to engage reverse. Without lifting it the reverse lever is locked.

With both bottom tabs broken off I could just pivot the lever to put it in reverse, no need to lift. I had noticed that the lever was spring loaded up & down, but never knew why.

Anyway I just thought I would give a heads up. I know many of you will point out that this has been discussed numerous times in the past, but since my car went into reverse I didn't think anything was wrong.

Here's a photo of the Hill Engineering replacement part. Larger pins (studs) no bushings. Machined (stronger)not cast like the OE part.

If your reverse lever never had to be lifted to get into reverse (it is a reverse lock-out, an old Ferrari tradition), you would never know it was broken. Odds are there are a lot of them out there broken, but the owners do not know because theirs was broken when they got it.

The 575M has the same problem and the same part fixes it. Same for the 612, but the HE part does not work on the F1A levers on the 612 and Superamerica.

I ordered the Hill part over a year ago and have had it sitting around waiting to go in. I'm lame. How long did it take you to install? You have motivated me to finally fix mine.

There's a really clear how-to somewhere but even without its maybe fifteen minutes

Four screws unplug fiddle with clips(at side of box = paper clips come in handy to hold open) remove upper lever insert new item reattach upper reassemble connect & go

There may be a couple of minor steps I've missed but nothing major

I would like to mod in a button with "R" on it like the 430 onwards.
I think the little T-bar looks daft.

Glen- Anything is possible, but some of those reverse buttons look pretty ugly after a while. Better to design your own that fits on the original panel.
