    Both have to come out.........but, do I lift out as one, or lift the motor out first, then the autobox.? advice please from someone who has actually done it, not just read about it !

    There is a difference.

    I took the trans out from underneath the car and then pulled the engine out the top. There is a frame cross member that sits between them​ that keeps them from coming out together.

    Interesting, is the frame different on the 400i vs the 400GT? I would certainly rather put them back in as a single unit as some of those bolts were incredibly difficult to reach.
