Anyone have any experience with these guys. I was on a recent trip to FLA and in Naples. I am dealing with the age old internal debate 550 or 360. I knew Naples motorsports has a large inventory, so I thought i could drive an example of both to get a feeling of which is my true perfence Now mind you I am not a kid looking to get his jollies testing a Ferrari. I own an 88 Testarossa and am looking to add to the collection. They had some cars I was interested in seeing so I called and inquired about a test drive. I was told they do not allow test drives because of their insurance company policy. I went to the showroom talked to the salesman and still no deal. He said maybe I could ride along when he drives. Is this insane or is it me?

He also told me they sold 4 360 spyders last week alone for between $170K- $175K. Was this guy out of his mind or what. I guess they don't want my $100K

Try a 'search' on that dealership, I agree that's some tall pricing on 360s man, I'd see Martin in Miami if I was shopping down Florida way............he's a low overhead dealership, Ferrari only.......he can find what you want and MAYBE let you drive one! ROTFLMAO!

That's an interesting approach. Maybe I should call them and offer to sell them an insurance policy that would allow them to let potential buyers actually try out their cars. If they sold 4-360's at those prices, think how many they could sell if they allowed test drives :) I'd say that it is more likely that they didn't have a car to sell for as little as $100K or somehow you gave them the impression that you just wanted a joyride. Many Ferrari owners treat the sale of a car much like the sale of a boat (survey and sea trial). You sign a contract to buy and maybe even place a deposit, subject to PPI and test drive. For cars in the $175K range, I don't think that's so far out of line. I think that they should have just been more upfront with you, rather make up silly stories about insurance.

Naples sells high quality cars from what I have seen and if they let every person who went in asking for a test drive, test drive the car. It'd add miles and rag the crap out of the cars. Perhaps but a deposit down, after all if you are a serious buyer you should be walking out of there with a car, if you're not going to buy a car from them why should they waste their time?

Naples pricing is pretty high but you get what you pay for and it even says on their website they are not the cheapest. Buy the $170,000 car from Naples or buy the $150,000 car on eBay and put $20,000 into service and maintenance making it like the Naples car.

that's all great but if i am trying figure out which car I would be happier living with a 550 or 360 I need to feel the car (seats, drivability, F1 vs. 6sp, etc.) before I make that decision and plop down my cash.

I feel your pain, but I will say that I don't really know if I like a car for months after purchase. You can tell if you fit in a car just by sitting in it. You can find out if you like an F-1 transmission (which I think is a huge issue) by finding someone that will let you drive a 360. The 550 and 360 are both Ferraris, but they are very different cars. One is a mid-engine, high revving sports car for day use only that gets lots of attention wherever it goes. The other is GT with excessive torque and room for suitcases that may not get a second look from most motorists.

I think that you will have to shop at least at two different places. There are far more 360's on the market than 550's, so start with 360's and go look at some. I'm positive that you will find a car that you can drive.

From a sample size of one, I can tell you that you DON'T want an F-1 in a Maranello. It was not designed for it, and half the fun of driving one is making perfect shifts under power. It takes some practice.

BTW, most dealers will let you take a 550 on a test drive if they get to know you a bit. Typically, the salesman will drive out to a stopping place and then let you drive back.

I bought my 550 from Naples. They were great every step of the way, and I'll tell you one thing... They generally have great cars in their inventory.

The day I bought my car, they new I was coming and had the car ready and waiting for a test drive. The sales manager took me out to the Naples airport then handed me the keys out in the back roads.

And, while I don't agree with their approach of turning down a test drive, it seems that they'll do a one car test drive for you if you essentially convince them that you're a buyer. If you're asking to drive two different cars, odds are you're a shopper, not a buyer. Most people who walk into an exotic car dealer with an exact idea of what they want. It's not like the random non-car people who walk into a Toyota dealer looking for a "4-door."

Also, they're almost a tourist destination in Naples, so they get lots of joy riders coming in.

In any event, your description of events seems like something strange happened, because everyone I know has gotten only first class service from them.
