Hey guys haven't driven the 550 in months and took it out last week & noticed when I put the AC control knob to 0 on control it still blows a decent amount of air out of vents. When I push the stop button the air still continues to blow out. Don't understand it, when I switch it to 1/2/3 it blows even harder and harder. Any suggestions on what it can be? I checked fuse that was fine, I swapped relays still does the same thing. Any suggestion would help.
    Tia:)

Are you moving when the fan speed selection knob is set to 0?

Set both knobs to "aut" and press the STOP button so it illuminates (compressor off). What happens then?

I'll try that when I get back to garage but I'm pretty sure I've tried every scenario with that switch to get the blower to stop and nothing stops it but pulling 7.5 fuse out. In theory they should turn off once you put it to 0, right?

Yes, setting the fan speed control knob to 0 should shut off the fan and let outside air in through the vents while the car is moving.

But I always set both knobs to "aut," leave the STOP button unlit and set the temperature I want and let the HVAC unit do its thing utilizing the sensor on top of the dashboard. On very hot days when the unit has the AC activated, I depress and light the RECIRCULATION button.

    "Set it and forget it."

A/C is hopeless in my 550. 1,2,3 settings barely blow. 4 is way to hard. When all is off....major heat from vents as if its engine is blowing. It's laughable. Still love my car

It doesn't get hot in Italy, Why would Ferrari worry about it. If you live elsewhere its your problem and allways has been. I haven't had a Ferrari with decent air conditioning yet after 40 years and seven Ferraris.

Dave- Affirmative, if you want everything off in a 550, both switches in Auto and then push the off button and it will shut off the compressor, incoming air, and the fans. Otherwise the fans will run at whatever speed is set on the dial and you will still get air distributed according to the other switch setting.

I am with you, Auto and Auto and set the temperature. On a 575M, the compressor cannot be shut off and runs whenever the outside temp is above 59 F.

There were 38 degrees celsius in Modena last year towards the end of July.
The AC compressor on my 550 died and I drove 500km without it, when I arrived at destination (workshop) I could barely step out of the car!
The heat wave lasted for four weeks or so....

    Stefano

PS: my AC system is otherwise very efficient!

38 degrees celsius? We have that here in May, and 43 degrees celsius thru August. My 2008 Corvette Convertible keeps the inside of the car below 26 Deg celsius on the hotest days of the year and the Engine Temp never goes over 104 Deg. celsius even in City traffic, the red line for engine temp is 121 Deg. celsius. My 2000 Maranello won't keep the car comfortable inside with the outside temp above 35 Deg.

Chuck- A new dryer and change of refrigerant may help you. Ferrari recommends every 2 years for that service, but hardly anybody does it. My 575M has basically the same AC (same compressor at least) as your 550 and keeps her cool at 100+ F (38+C).

That happens occasionally in my 944 turbo because the resistor block for the blower fan is right under the cowling by the windshield and exposed to the elements. I have to periodically clean off the corrosion on the resistor pack contacts with Würth Contact OL.

    All the time or intermittently?

Update: tried putting both knobs to aut and pressed stop button in, air continued to blow out. When I depressed the stop button w both on aut air blew out extremely hard as if it was on 4 on control knob. I'm stuck:(

OK Chuck, that's really hot! What water temperature are you getting with the 550 in slow traffic on those hottest days??
