"Sorry about the double posting. I didn't scroll down to see it." WOw! On Ebay and selling. Nice color and rims. They are using this thing like a taxi cab. Ferrari 456 Base Coupe 2 Door | eBay **No affiliation with seller.
Wow--what an interesting data point. Would be really interesting to see the service records on that car...
More like 180,638 miles based on its Autotrader ad here: Cars for Sale: 1995 Ferrari 456 GT in San Diego, CA 92107: Coupe Details - 375559401 - AutoTrader.com And the Autocheck VIN run on Ebay reports 175,712 miles in October of 2012, only 1,200 more miles then in June 2011. Sounds more like 180k miles I'd think as another 90k miles in 1.5 years seems like a lot if the 270k is to be believed. Completely unheard of for a Ferrari. Common on a Porsche, or Mercedes Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The more you drive them, the happier they are. Sounds like this one got one of the good sets of valve guides.
Is it me or is it so that valve guides fail mostly on the verly low mileage cars? If yes, then it could be an issue with lubrication getting washed out by too many cold starts versus driving.
I liked the looks of this car enough that I put in a low-ball bid around $22K. Figured that for that price, I was protected by being able to parts it out and not lose money.... The mileage doesn't scare me, but I am scared by the lack of description. The present owner emailed me to confirm only 180,000 (Only ?), and I assume that's true. I think he said that it was a long - term daily - driver for the 1st owner, and well cared for at Ferrari of Newport Beach, or some such. The fact that the seller is disinterested in "correcting" the ad from 270,000 to 180,000 makes me question his......... The reserve has been met - at about $24k, so the car will go to a new owner if the transaction completes. Does anybody here know anything about this car ? Seems hard to imagine 1 Ferrari with 180,000 miles escaping notice when so many change hands at less than 30K and about the same age.....
something mells fishy, could it be a salvage car?,or maybe 18,000 miles ,180,000 is alot on a toyota, fet alone a ferrari
I have owned a couple of vehicles with leather interiors that were/are pushing 200k miles. No matter how careful you are, the color coating on the leather will crack and the seat will have a worn look. The drivers seat in this car looks too good. That is a good thing, but it appears the owner is leaving out some details about the cars history.
166- Valve guide wear does not appear to have anything to do with how low the mileage is. One of our 456M owners had to repolace his at 40,000+ miles and we see similar results for the F355.
Somebody got a sweet deal on that! LOL. I hope somebody can post a vintage Diablo with 300k on it. I'm so Game!
Sounds like the car was used as Ferrari intended. It's 20 years old, so 180,000 miles isn't even 10,000 miles per year. I bet there are plenty of 456s in Europe with more miles than this.
I think a Ferrari engine is more durable than many may believe. At a FCA track event a few years ago, an owner had a Daytona there. Drove the heck out of it. Turned out he'd done the same for years. And between, his daughter had too. It had 130,000 miles on it if I recall. Need to be thoughtful, keep up with the maintenance, let everyhing get up to spped etc, but the big v12 is not a high stressed motor. As an aside, if I recall correctly, when Chris Harris did the F40 F50 back to back test, didn't the 40 has 90,000+ miles on it and still went like the clappers? Philip
I clock 10,000 plus miles on my 575 every year (oh joy) and am mildly mystified by the low-mileage fetish. Who would want to leave a car like this in the garage? The insurance guys should be overjoyed that some of us take our cars out enough that we become reasonably proficient at driving them (touches wood!). The downside is that you are occasionally going to have to cough up for a new clutch/ABS unit (one each for me in 7 years). The upside is the appreciation has more than taken car of the cost of that (NB 911 owners).
Many of us have put that average on ours. You are not alone and agreed on not wanting to use it: Both of ours were daily drivers.
