The issues of aging around the gaskets and fuel pumps on the 550 and 575 are well documented and I suspect that in my case with the SA it is pretty much the same again.
    However, one thing puzzles me.
The smell of fuel is only discernible when driving the car open topped. With the roof closed there is no smell in the cabin or in the trunk, even after leaving it closed and covered overnight.
At standstill there is no odour under the hood, trunk, cabin. The only whiff of fuel comes from sticking my nose under the rear wheel arches or from the vent where the gearbox oil cooler is behind the passenger door on the side opposite to the fuel filler.
When driving open topped, the fuel smell must come into the cabin via some kind of back draft.
From what I read of the 575 fuel tank gasket or fuel pump problems, I would have thought the smell would have permeated the trunk and cabin at least.
Any ideas what it might be if not the usual suspects?
Just trying to eliminate possibilities before I send it to have the tank removed and gaskets replaced!
    Thanks
    PAUL

It will all be around in the trunk next to the fuel tank. Fuel pumps, gaskets, or even the rollover valves because there are many plastic components that deteriorate with age. Best to have it fixed sooner than later.

If you are brave enough to at least determine the cause, you can remove the panel hiding the fuel tank in the trunk.

Turns out it was a cracked plastic connector on the "top" of the fuel pump. Of course new pump required which they had in stock. Pressure test showed valve gaskets ok so they could do repair without removing tank and suggested leaving the gaskets for now. Still cost me 2.5x the quoted Eurospares price for the replacement pump.

I think I saw in one thread where the top plastic cover/connector is available separately from a third party in US. Maybe if it happens again I will do it myself seeing as access in the SA is quite straight forward if you don't need to remove tank.
