So I'm considering a new toy Ford GT is at the top of the list A nice white one w blue stripes would be awesome Thanks for any input
white with blue strips is my fav.... i dropped the ball big time on these..... i was waiting to pull the trigger at $100k used after the came out. they dropped to the $120ks and turned up. they are collectors items now.
Quite a few for sale on cars.com. Here is a white one w/ blue stripes for $156k. http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp;jsessionid=uaVmHsSDDxNPEpdsp8NAmvw?tab=photos&paId=344829404&recnum=&listingId=39541370&paId=344829404&listingRecNum=26&criteria=sf1Dir%3dDESC%26alMdId%3d21203%26mkId%3d20015%26stkTyp%3dU%26mdId%3d21203%26rd%3d100000%26crSrtFlds%3dstkTypId-feedSegId-mkId-mdId%26zc%3d20175%26rn%3d0%26PMmt%3d1-1-0%26stkTypId%3d28881%26sf2Dir%3dASC%26sf1Nm%3dprice%26sf2Nm%3dmiles%26alMkId%3d20015%26rpp%3d50%26feedSegId%3d28705&tracktype=usedcc&pageNumber=&numResultsPerPage=&largeNumResultsPerPage=0&sortorder=descending&sortfield=PRICE&certifiedOnly=false&aff=national Seems like $155k - $160k is the going price for most of them. . I'm a huge fan of the Ford GT. One of my mentors had one for a while and I got some decent seat time in it. I would love to have one in the garage someday.
The Ford GT was my dream car UNTIL.... UNTIL... I saw an SPF GT40. You can get these in right hand drive as well. Several forum members have them. No comparison. THAT is THE CAR. In Gulf livery I don't think anyone would notice any other car on the road. The SPF just kicks all kinds of ass. I agree with Remix. How much are the SPF cars used? William, have you considered the GT without the stripes? I think a black or white car minus the stripe would get my vote.
SPF is definately a badass ride but I'm looking for an investment too. I think the Ford GT should do nicely there
I own a 2005 Ford GT that I bought new. Mine is blue with white stripes. I never see one on the road. I am not a collector but I do have a fair amount of sports cars, mostly exotic. What I find impressive about the car is the power and driving feel. I also like the looks and the awesome sound system. The impressive thing about the car is it does not feel like an American car, more European with an American flare. Even with its age it handles with very exotic cars. I have a 560-4 2009 Lambo and the FGT is better. It is much better in handling than the ZR1 Corvette, but not the power. Great car and I plan on driving it for awhile. Lee
I'm in the same boat. I thought they would get below 100k, saw several at dealer auctions for ~$115-125... now they are consistently $135-145k. Very cool cars to drive, I've got a friend with one that has 50k miles (inc track time) on it, it's still nice and tight (un-ford like), and he hasn't had any issues with it.
I agree with REMIX... I looked at a Ford GT and then a SPF GT-40....A world of difference between the two cars.. I bought the SPF GT-40 and could not be more pleased.... do some homework on both of these cars and if love old time power and blinding speed ---------- you will know the answer after the first test drive
Not to worry. As I see it someone else got a small discount by being the investment Pioneer. Now that they have turned the corner and headed up it is a good time to jump on board. Dont look back and say "I could have had one at 150K"
the spf properly spec'd is a wicked, wicked machine!!!! there is not one car on the market today that is a better value or nearly as cool...certainly nothing offered by ferrari.
As Tiger did...JUST DO IT! If/when I'm in position to consider such I think white w/blue would be my first choice too. FWIW here is one in Gulf livery I saw in AL last month next to a "F"riend. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
A SPF is much closer to the "spirit" of the original, which was purely a race car. Any idea what it (SPF) is like in terms of real world drive-ability and reliability? I imagine the Ford version is more user friendly but pure speculation on my part.
White with no stripes is the rarest combo. I believe there were 3 06's. Both are probably the most expnsive color combos. I absolutely loved my ford GT. It is an absolute bargin and a car once purchase that should never be sold. you will regret selling it. The worst part about the car are the damn doors... you have to take up two spots or valet. DO NOT get an early 05 model. There build quality is not very good compared to the later 05s and 06s. The build quality on the later cars is extremely nice. It is a nicely made designed and engineered car. Its a special car that actually makes you feel special. An all time fav... And I am a huge FERRARI NUT CASE
A couple weeks ago, I saw a SPF at the shop I get work done on my Ferrari. Very cool - didn't really appreciate what I was looking at at the time but went back tonight and did some research. Tremendous value there if you can find one... I too have lost many an evening searching the WWW for Ford GTs - especially during the worst of the recession. Prices never really dipped below about $130k. Promises to be a real keeper and appreciate in value.
Good luck with your purchase...I think any Ford GT owner will tell you no regrets and love everything about the car and what it offers There are at least 1/2 a dozen in my city...the Yellow is a 1 of 9 in Canada...there are 2 here...the Heritage 1 of 35 in Canada...the Tungsten is a stripe delete...and the Red well all Red car owners will tell you it is the best...the nicest and of course the fastest ! One car that will not go down in value...I don't think ever Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Currently, yellow is the fastest color pulling about 267 mph in one mile. Also, the Nardo record car was yellow. My personal favorite is the black no-stripe cars. They are still pulling about 40k over sticker. William, I'd recommend going through the dealers that are sponsors on www.fordgtforum.com, either Shelby, or BJ Motors. Each car is definitely an investment, and mods don't seem to hurt the cars values... And there are a ton out there that drop the weight, and add power/ handling/ stopping/ traction control/ launch control, downforce, and appearance etc. etc. You'd fit in quite nicely in the GT community, but what do I know LOL. Some of the mods the GTguys can do for you is in a gallery of photos I took of their car here http://nthimage.com/Detroit/photoshoots/The_GT_Guys_Ford_GT.htm Carbon fiber... splitter rear venturi's side valance rear gurney flap clamshell front hood Carbon interior replacement pieces (just about any part in the interior is replaceable) Billet clamshell vents billet 2-in-one (for one sided opening and closing) clamshell hooks Bumper delete exhaust relocation (to reflect a similar appearance to the GT40's) .... really, the sky is the limit to how far you want to go with a GT.
There are a lot better things to put your money into than a car. Just sayin'. The ONLY Ford GT I would consider would be one in the Heritage Livery (read: Gulf livery) or a dark blue/white stripe car. People want what I think is stupid money for them and I think it would get shown up in pure badass-ness by an SPF car for less money. I love the original GT40s, I love the rawness and look. Ford did a nice job of recreating the car, but the SPF is very true to the original, so much so that they are allowed into the GT40 registry. I like raw cars. If I saw both the FGT and the SPF next to one another at a car show, I would immediately assume the guy with the SPF was the true enthusiast. Anyone with a big wallet can by an FGT. It takes a special person to live with an SPF IMO. I don't think it's for everyone. Ford did not race the newer version against Ferrari...in fact, I don't think they raced it at all against anything. The original cars were raced and I'd personally like to experience that feeling as much as possible. Fearless Shifter did a nice writeup of his car: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=278889 As far as used prices, I've seen them at $80k. That's a real bargain and the first thing I'm buying when I have enough to afford to write a check without missing the money. RMX
Get the Ford GT William. You won't regret it. I owned an original Ford GT40 for almost 30 years, along with three original big block Cobras, a small block Cobra, early Porsche 930, bunch of other cars. All great cars in their own right, but after buying a Ford GTX1 (custom roadster version of the Ford GT) in 2008, I could easily live with it as my only fun car. The excitement and thrills never end. The SPF replica GT40 is likely a fine piece--for what it is, which isn't a "car" in the sense that you could get in it and drive coast-to-coast in reasonable comfort, as you could with the Ford GT. My original GT40 was fantastic for 20-30 minutes, then the brutal heat, noise, and ride took their toll on the enjoyment factor. I drove my GTX1 for hours from Maryland to Long Island and loved every minute. It all depends on what you're looking for, but for my $$, the Ford GT is the absolute best bang for the buck: very unique, staggeringly fast, gorgeous to look at, and a real car for overall usability. Understand I am not knocking others' suggestions and choices. To each their own. This is just my $0.02. Also, I second the suggestion to check out the dealer-sponsors on the Ford GT Forum. They stand behind their sales. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
