As part of my TR shakedown OCD, I pulled ALL the white connectors in the fuse box. And just when I was feeling cocky....both radiator fan connectors were starting to turn brown. So I called Mr. Helms and it will be on its way to Colorado tomorrow morning.

Below is what the backside looks like. There is some obvious damage where the Radiator fan pins are. Good, Bad, Ugly??

What is he doing to the fusebox exactly? Is there a thread about it? What is the cost to fix it?

Basically he is bullet-proofing the circuit board by isolating the high amperage circuits from the main part of the board and re-integrating them at one end with their own power supply and fuse block. This also includes the addition of stand-alone relays on the back of the board for those same high-amperage circuits, at least that is the way it's set up on mine.

NO MORE MELTED CIRCUITS OR CONNECTORS

Thanks Spasso, after I asked I tought of the search option and found it. A great debate with Malibu_rob. BTW is ex car is for sale on Ebay.

I'll look at mine when the car will be here. I'd like to sort out all I can on a slow basis. By what I understand the circuits that are affected are the rad fans and the fuel pumps. Is that correct?

I also read the GCK makes miracle on engine smoothness. Mine was running rich on one bank when I checked it, can I believe the kit could correct it?

I talked with Newman about the diff and saw his parts when I stopped at his place. Nice quality parts. My car is only 19800 miles so the diff can probably wait a short time, I know I'll be very gentle on it and do not plan to drive it too much in the few years to come.

Those 3 upgrades I was aware of are on my list. I hope to own a troublefree car after a certain time.

    Thanks again!

    1) Radiator fans (2), fuel pumps(2), A/C and oil cooler fans.

    2) As the OEM connectors in your engine bay corrode and lose clamping force the electrical signals to everything is corrupted, making your car "stupid" and run bad.

The Gold Connector kit will optimize all of the connections in the engine bay with higher clamping force connectors than the wimpy OEM bits. This will stabilize the electrical signals to all of the components that run the car; ignition, fuel injection, various sensors etc....

My TR was NOT running bad when I installed the kit and I gained a few horse power, verified on dyno.

    3) Talk to Robert Hayden (uzz32soarer) about diffs that break under light usage on un-abused TR's. His split apart at 10 mph on a straight road. Extensive thread on his repairs.
He and many of compatriots in Australia are seeing many failures first hand, 512TR's as well.
They are using a different Diff replacement from the UK.

I want to add that the Gold Kit may not necessarily correct a poor running condition but will definitely eliminate the possibility that any given component is receiving a corrupted electrical signal, and that's half the battle in diagnosing a problem.

I thought the diff problem was addressed in the 512 TR. Am I wrong on that??

Argh. I think it's safe to say that for every new topic posted in this section the diff will always be brought up. Lets not forget to mention the diff boys. Lol. Let me say this. The diff is the final piece to a bullet proof TR. Dave Helm fuse box and gold connector kit is an absolute must.

Hey. Any info on a diff?

Ps. Had the b*tch out today. Man. If I could bang the tailpipe I would. Lol.

    Done. Fineto. Fin.

I got the box around noonish and was ready for the test drive by 2:30. I really took my time. Soldered everything, checked labels 4-5 times, cleaned up some alarm wiring, called Dave to clarify something and it was done. The hardest part was routing the main power wire to the battery. Once you peel off the glued in carpet you can see the rubber grommet referred to in the directions. The 'pro tip' is to turn the wheels full right so you can get your left hand in the wheel well to feed the main wire into the battery box.

Fired right up but was reving slowly. *Doh!* forgot to connect the left main spark wire on the left coil when I was testing it last week. Once corrected, ran great. Rads kicking on and off when they should, Ice cold air and peace of mind.

If your 512 was built BEFORE 7/1/94 and the Gear Box number is LOWER than 1370 you do NOT have the Differential upgrade from the factory.

SB 30-23, 7/1/94; 512TR This is the differential change.
    a. From gearbox number 1370 replace welded differential 146769 with forged unit 155099
    b. From gearbox number 1513 new ring gear with different bolts and locating dows to align with the differential assembly. Replace ring & pinion 110016 with 159069
    c. From gearbox number 1513 replace 12 bolts M10X1.25 #103875 with 12 bolts #153710 M10X1 thread
    d. From gearbox number 1513 add 2 centering dowels 13916370
    e. Updated bolts for gearboxes 1512 and prior: Replace 12 bolts 103875 M10X1.25 with 12 bolts 155750 M10X1.25. These are stronger bolts and can be used on all ring gear to differential mating where the old ring gear with M10X1.25 threads is retained. If the forged differential is installed it should be with these new stronger bolts.

That's odd. I tried the link 3 times after I posted it and it worked fine.
My suggestion is for you to click "Search" for this forum section (TR) yourself, using the term "Gearbox number". It brings up a good selection of threads.

I just tried it again and the term works good.
