Yesterday my (bearded) son reported: the left window vanished Dad ... Operating the switch gives a "clunck" and nothing more .... I will have a look this week or next and show you what (may) have happened. Any others with 512TR had something like this yet ? Image Unavailable, Please Login
The only kind of air conditioning. Lol. Windows open always. It's supposed to be hot and moist in the cabin. Key word being moist. R
The window is operated with a cable and pulley system. If it falls off the cable or cable breaks the window stays on the bottom of the door. Ago
Quiet different system imo ! One of the MANY enhancements .... (but now seems to fail ...) Found a pic of both openers .... FYI ! Did I show the photo of the event where this happened; 20 F's and FOUR TR's ! ? Will keep you all updated ... O.K David !!! Found the failure ..... and was able to solve it easily myself for 000 $ this time ... The down-stop didn't stop anymore (due to 22 years of stopping) .... and then the crash was there ... Will post all photo's later ... nice info for all 512TR/M owners; will link it to the "Testarossa Cross Reference Thread"... Image Unavailable, Please Login
The opening of the door panelling ... One: This pad clicks out if a screwdiver is carefully pushed in. By the way: this is a SUPER place to hide a wallet or other parts ! Two: Phillips screwdriver to unscrew handle (top only) Three: Find here two nuts which need to be lossened. (One more you will fin dlater in front) Four: This one is hard to reach; which fxxxxxg mechanic invented this stupid construction .... Five: If panelling is unscrewed, lift upwards and all will come off; a large blackplastic covering (plastic bag material) can be peeld off easily. Inside is oem white plastic covering motor etc. Six: Take it all away ! Seven: Here we see how the lifting system is attached to the glass holder with only 2 x 10mm screws (VERY good and solid constuction ..... pfffffff) Eight: The wire you see comes from the opening handle inside the compartiment; it simply clicks on or off. Nine: Loosen top mounting of motor Ten: Loosen window Eleven:loosen lower motor mounting Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The Cure ! Beware of the electric componets; they are all very fragile; switches can hardly be found as repacenemts ! One: when sliding off the panel, you first had to release the 3 switches Two: here you see the mirror switch and switch of window left (blue wiring) and left (red wiring) Three: after fiddeling with the mirror switch a few times, my electric mirrors showed movements again ! Beware of this bad quality switch ... Four: Two connectors for the motor Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The Cure: One: Taking the system was not that easy; beware of scratch the pane ! Two: The big plate is moved up and down by that flexible thread (so I will call it now as non-UK speaking F member ) Three:Here you see the rotating wheel on the motor; its teeth move the flexible thread Four, five, six, seven and eight: show the bent end-stopping metal part. Analisys: after 22 years of banging to its lowest position, it did not stop (enough) anymore; the mechanisme could not slip back into it's rail anymore. This could be fixed ! Nine and ten: this tubing should be attached to the frame at the position where the flexible thread has to find way when moved to the highest position. You can see it broke off one day ... nobody knows how log ago ... You can also see that the croocked end-stop was bent downwards and hit / almost jammed this sleeve .... So if a window will hardly go down and up: maybe you find the problem there ... until it breaks off and vanishes ... For Friend Phil from U.K. .... of course my helping (corgi) hand was allways stand-by ! Fixed .... ! One, twoand three: this is what happens with window in highest position! The flexible thread should move in a sleve and not damage other parts ! WHERE to find something to cure that ? Maybe my waterhose ...??? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Fixed (2) ! You won't believe me One: Cut off a piece of 40 cms of any flexible tubing ... (here: piece of waterhose ...) Two: Make sure the binder dos NOT scratches the glass Three: move the flex tubing like the oem position, onder the mechanism ... Hope to fix last things today: spray black my waterhose as camouflage ..., wax all inside panels and screw together it all. Concluding: It is a different system from the Testarossa and it also breaks !! Also here, we all can repair simple problems ourselves. Don't panic ! It is almost always a bad construction that caused these failures ... Most importantly imo: by doing it yourself you not only spare money, you get to understand your own car. It gives great pleasure to DO IT YOURSELF !!! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
You know Mel, I was going to make the point that your Corgi has got in on the window servicing picture (yet AGAIN) but you beat me to it.......
Pictures of Alfa Romeo 75/Milano mirror switch. If it looks the same I don't mind mailing it to you, but I am not sure of its condition - removed it years ago when building a Milano race car.
