It is my understanding that you can only drive one of these on certain tracks at certain times (i.e. only in the FXX Challenge series races).
I heard that same thing. You buy the car but Ferrari keeps it and brings it certain tracks and you can drive it there. I'm not sure that is true because I have see the yellow SWAP SHOP FXX at Cavallino every year. I don't think I have seen it on the track but it is at the show every year. I saw the owner (or whoever was driving it) scrape the front end on the curb at the Breakers a few years ago.
No. It's all media BS. You own the car. It's just that most owners chose to have Ferrari keep the car at the Factory because they also take care of shipping the car to various tracks where the FXX/XX program will race. So instead of you having to deal with logistic and/or servicing the car in between events, Ferrari ships and services them so you just show up and drive. If you want your car in your garage to go to your track day, you can. We had one owner here who showed videos of him driving his father FXX at various non FXX-event.
I would do donuts in the snow on my way to work if I owned this car... Maybe that's why I don't have one?
+2. Ferrari of Houston has two stored on site for its customers. I've seen one at COTA for a non-FXX event.
I don't think there is any issue with driving them on public roads. The issue is who drives a million dollar car on the same road as a 17 year old kid texting while on his way to 7/11. Lake Forest Sportscars currently have one in the shop they will be selling.
Which brings me right back to my original post. Where could you drive it? I'd be scared to death to drive it anywhere, public road OR track. I'd sell it, take the money, purchase a 458, a 16M and a challenge car if I wanted something to bring to the track. Now if I won 50 million dollars in the lottery...... now THAT'S a different story!
Great discussion men This car can't move on public roads, but is it possible, you can give the car to Ferrari and for a small fee they will prepare it for traffic. Insurers may be concerned about this Car is still for sale!
I have seen the yellow Swap Shop car on the track at both Spa and at the Nurburgring. I have some of the photos on my FB I believe. I think I have probably seen 20-25 of the 30 FXXs at those events. I have heard of a few of them being tagged and driven on the road. I am not sure what the steps are to do that, but somehow I saw it done. It was also my understanding that they were not meant to be street legal either. PDG
