About my previous post ... The first picture is what I started with ... a total absolute mess. The second ... bit of a difference ... the Lexon effort. Picked this one up tonight and talked with the printer. Reason why the price went up was that he had to outsource it to get it silk screen printed. That was the only way he could get the background black color dense enough to stop the illumination lights shining through. The numbers etc are a slightly deeper green than the original ... but are transparent so you can see them at night. This replacement comes with a peel off backing that's ready to stick on the unit. Total time to make the replacement ~ 30 minutes .. and that's being real careful. I'm pleased with it ... very pleased .. but then you need to consider what I started with! If we can get 50 takers for this the cost will be ~ $35 ... 125 he can do for ~ $25. Quite a few people have expressed an interest ... apologies .. I lost count! Take a look and decide if you want to spend this kind of money on your $100k cars! Drop me an e-mail at [email protected] and I'll work up the final price based on the volume. Spread the word ... buy in bulk & save! Tomorrow I'll post a picture with the replacement on my car. Sorry it took so long.
$35 isn't bad, $25 even better. My only concern is the black color matching the rest of the console, not so much worried about the texture. The only reason I mention that is that I remember an earlier pic showing the slightly darker black of the new label. Either way, congrats on getting this far!! Excited to see how it matches on your install. Pending the matching issue, we could be in for one as well.
Nope ... just the Houston sun and a lavish coating of Amaurol (sp.?) stuff. The cleaner just softens/dissolves the plastic paint and then the heat just compounds the problem. To date I've recoated the steering column, door handles, cig. box ($500 for a new one ... yeh right!), most of the center console. Next is the surround of the gear shift, then finally the switches .. which I'm not looking forward too. All recoated in black sheen spray paint @ $4 a can! Reckon the whole operation will cost about $50 ... plus a lot of time. And it will stay good to look at. I saw no point in buying replacement parts that will just deteriorate in the heat. Finally ... the dash board leather ... another nightmare. Regards, Pete
I never noticed a difference ... maybe it's my lousy photography ... was it something I posted? .. I can't remember posting a picture like that ... maybe it was the original Fchatter that posted the graphic that I eventually used for my effort. I'm almost sure the only pics. I posted were the ones yesterday. In any event I'll make a point of looking out for a difference.

Ah, now that I think about it, I think you're right--just didn't realize it before. Sorry for the confusion. Nevertheless, in that case, the color seemed a slight issue, at least to me. Anyways...I look forward to your progress!
Peter What did you use to remove the old rubberized paint prior to painting? I was thinking of Tulune or mineral spirits....or is that a bad idea?
Sorry it wouldnt get past the first hearing, in the owners manual Ferrari stated that you should clean the interior with soapy water, as I'm sure we all know by now the consoles and other rubberised parts melt when they have silicone based cleaners sprayed onto them (silica rubber finish + silicone + sun = gooey mess)
Before I started all this stuff I experimented with a couple of solvents ... simply went down to Home Depot and bought small cans of different stuff .. 'Goo remover' .... mineral spirits etc etc. Nothing I found works better than simple Acetone or a derivitave which is called Methyl Ethly Ketone (MET) ... MET is slightly better than plain acetone becasue it doesn't evaporate as quickly. The procedure is simply ... MET in dish ... a half dozen rags ... and start rubbing! The ash tray is the simplest .. it's metal .. used a paint brush on that and just let it soak .. came straight off. The plastic bits are harder .. used the MET, then very fine wet& dry with water ... to do one plastic bit took me ~ 3 - 4 hours ... an hour a night just to get it to the pre-spray stage. It really is a case of MET .. wet & dry ...MET .. wet and dry etc etc. Careful with any knobs you do ... they're real thin plastic and I sanded through one and had to repair. The whole process is easy to do .. just time consuming and messy. Tulune may work .. maybe even better .. if it does .. drop a post. I do know the MET cuts straight through the rubber .. but Tulune may be easier to work with. Stay outside when you're doing this ... I tried the kithen .. bad news on the marital front! Regards, Pete
This weekend (Saturday) I'll count all the people who expressed an interest .. post their names so people can check who's on the 'list' ... state the cost (= function of the number ordered) .. ask for the $ and then place the order. 10 days to make ... then in the post. I started the switches tonight. Found the best way to clean them up is a simple Stanley utility blade to scrape off the rubber stuff. NO SOLVENT .. too messy and tricky in case it gets into the switch. I then used DAMP wet & dry to smoothe them out .... then FLAT BLACK spray.... covered up the decals with masking tape. They look IDENTICAL to the rubberized ones. I tried black sheen .. but they looked 'bumpy' .. the flat black hides all the imperfections. Pete
I have emailed my close friend Doug R. who is the owner and founder of http://www.quatrocomposites.com He will be visiting this forum shortly to answer any of your questions and might be pursuing this particular market. I spoke with him at length last night about this problem and wasn't aware of this 355 problem.............until now. As you can see, he is active in alot of different sectors------http://www.quatrocomposites.com/siteb/gallery.htm Doug has already manufactured a replacement center console piece on the H2 as displayed, http://www.quatrocomposites.com/siteb/h2.htm
I have the following people on the list .... JRS (REQUESTED 2) JBUFFA STEVE_NERO FL355 EVARTANIAN LETSJET TTG FERRARIOLDMAN FASTHOUND (REQUESTED 2) FAZZAZ1 F308BVC JEFFDAVIDSON (REQUESTED 2) 355 ALOHA (REQUESTED 2) RICHARD WALLACE JOHN SANDERS WILLIAM HEUNG RM COHEN JOHN NADLER JOSEPH CARETTI FAST HOUND FRANK LIPINSKI J SCOTT LEONARD MICHAEL KUHN Makes 27 .. please check for an double up on names. At 27, the cost is $49 .... including postage ... handling .. ferrari tax ... and 911 fee! If we could get to 50 the price would be ~ $35 .... wonder if I could get one of the sponsors to hold a stock. I'll send a couple of e-mails out. Anyone want to buy a stock for re-sale later??? If we go below 20 .. the price goes up ~ $10 as I recall. My address for the $ is: 17733 WHITE OAK HILL, CYPRESS, TEXAS, 77429 This will be sort of trial and error .... if we get more .. the price goes down and you get a refund .... if the number goes down (<20) ... guess what? And guys .... this is my best effort. I started with an absolute total abomination and I'm thrilled with the product.... but everything is relative. I won't deposit any of the $ until I get the product from the printer and am satisfied. If this whole thing blows up ... all $ returned. This weekend I will post a piccy of my console, finished, using the trial piece I have. I'll also post EXACT dimensions of the piece ... yep .. it should fit all 355's I know .... Best regards, Pete Delaney
That's Great! BTW - you have me listed twice (FL 355 & Frank Lipinski) but that's OK because I want 2 of them. Check is in the mail today, literally. Re: Stock - I would be interested...but I have to see it first. I think there is an opportunity to offer a service. Want to do my car first and see how much time it takes. I have many contacts through car shows, clubs and dealers. One last thing...Pete can you include a simple one page instruction sheet with it. I'm mechanically inclined but never pulled my consol...how? Do you pull the knobs? You got the drift...just some basic guidlines. Thanks Frank
Hey Pete - I was wondering - do you want us to pay with PayPal (you could set up a quick account - and I am assuming most of us have a paypal account)... Either way no problem sending the check... i will get one out in the next few days when I get back home from my travels this week... Awesome Stuff!!! Also - the first few people that do the replacement - I think we should send photos, do's and don'ts, issues, time to replace, etc. That way those who have time to do it first the others can gain that experience!!! Thanks, Rich Wallace
