Ironic that this thread should take off the way it did; i went home last night and, on HBO, was some sort of documentary about children of RIDICULOUSLY rich people, like Trump, the A&P dude, and some other very wealthy folks...

i'm not talking about Mt. Laurel, NJ rich i'm talking about mini Bill Gates rich... This show was off the hinges...

These kids were all in their late teens/early twenties and some of the things they said just put in perspective just how much money they had and how much their parents had...

One girl was talking about the helipad her parents have and how, if she catches them when they're about to go somewhere, she can usually get a lift to or from the city (NYC), but that, either way, she usually ends up "driving back" like "normal people"... During this segment with this particular woman, they showed her at some private tennis club in the Hamptons and, in the parking lot, there was a red Mondial Cabriolet...

Another kid said that, just from his inheritance, his annual income is - minimum - VERY high 6 figures and that he makes 50k annually from his job... He said, "i could go downtown right now and just buy a Ferrari... i could..."

The whole documentary was about these kids and what they have to go through, being the offspring of EXTREMELY WEALTHY and, in some cases, famous people... i've seen shows and documentaries and articles and stuff about rich folks before but NOTHING has EVER put it in perspective like these kids did... It was just so blatant and so out there and so commonplace... i can only imagine...

Mt. Laurel may not be rich, but some of the people in it, are... i was there 5 or 6 years ago and the houses were nuts... Just huge, palatial castle-like mansions that seemed to occupy more land than i could see with my naked eye... It was incredible... i remember walking up one driveway and i thought it would never end...

Yeah, I guess some parts of Mt. Laurel are like that. My friend's mom owned an HMO and had a pretty giagantic house here.

Too bad I didn't know you then, Carbon. I'd have had you to my house for some coffee!

Oh, well, if that's the case, then i guess you're right - Mt. Laurel isn't a rich town...

...if it was, she would own a REAL health insurance company...! One that offers both in and out of network benefits...! :D

i hate coffee, but that's alright, i'll be right over... :)

Let me restate my point. I have 2 cards, not trying to say anything. Come to my school though, money isn't as free flowing, and I got the card w/o one of those pre approval things. That's my point.

Agreed. I was hiking through the woods a few months ago to look at a 40 acre tract of land with an 1100 foot peak. WAY out in the country, surrounded by timber company property with no access except for 4WD logging roads. I want an isolated location for a wilderness cabin. Plenty of places like that here in Arkansas. But they aren't exactly Ferrari accessible. I didn't buy that land.......yet. I found another 80 acre tract on the side of a 2000 foot peak, but the property did NOT include the actual peak of the mountain. The property extended ALMOST to the top, but did not include the top. Bummer. I passed. Who want's somebody building a cabin 100 yards ABOVE you.

Haha!! That is exactly what I am waiting to see one of these days at a friends house. Since I don't have a TV, when ever I go over their houses, I always watch the shows on E or MTV or other shows on Discovery and Travel Channel, that are all about people showing off their houses, cars, motorhomes, vacation homes...blah blah..

I am waiting to see the kids of F chat there one of these days. I know their personalities suit that kind of a "bling bling, I am a baller, and my penis is 16 inches longer than yours" mentality.

    Stay tuned :) :)

Rather the opposite again. This was the day my dad realised he was now playing in a 'different leauge.'

Pres of Company: "You can't use an Aero valve in our new product, they're our competition!"
Dad: "But, they make the best valve."
    ...
Pres: <grumbles.>"Allright, we'll discuss this tommorow."
    <Pres calls the next day.>
Pres: "You can use that valve now."
Dad: "Ah, come around and see it my way now?"
Pres: "No, I bought Aero last night for $40million".
    ...<dead silence on the line>...

Did you see the ending where the one kid sues for some reason I forgot. The lawyer of the one getting sued laughs b/c he says you're making a documentary about how rich people act and such and this just goes to show how he is so rich he can sue you for no good reason.

I saw that. It was done by the Johnson heir, who himself is pretty cool. It seemed to be kind of like he was showing what his friends did that pissed him off. Which I can well understand. I have met most of them though I am a little older and he is right, they are some real punks.

    Another sort of story.

My favorite line to use when people ask me what I did to get my 348 is, "I stayed in school."

Luckily, those kind of people don't come here...they're too good for little people like us, espescially if we have/have had to work for our money. And those kind of people just buy cars like Ferraris for the name and to tell others that they have them; people here buy them and come here cause they love the cars.......period.

Here is one....a mere brush with greatness. And it is rated XXX for specific audiences, namely NNO fans.

I showed my car at Concorso Italiano this year, but I drove down with the family, so the opportunities to socialize were not abundant. We all went home Sunday after a good time at the GTE gathering and the tomyang.net party.
I came back solo early next week, excusing myself from work due to an illness, a rather common automotive obsessive/compulsive disorder. My boss and I did the Skip Barber Formula school together ayear ago, so he understood perfectly. It was also close to my Saint's Day (consult your cathehism), so my parents treated me to a night at the Quail lodge. I emptied the complimentary mini bar liquor supply in 3 hours and watched America's 50 Hottest Women on Spike. A decent evening program, but nothing to write home about.
In the morning, I signed in to be a volunteer at the Ferrari club Festivities. My job was to hand out dash tags to the show entrants. I gave one to Jim/Napolis, as well as to handlers for McCaw brothers, and the like. In addition to being able to enjoy the event after my task was over, volunteers got to enjoy a complimentary lunch on the green of the Quail resort. And this is where I lucked out.
I sat down next to a Hollywood producer guy and his wife (could have been a daughter, really). On the other side of the lunch table was a funny guy with a moustache and a hat, probably in his 60s. When I joined the producer type was trying to get the older guy to sell him his Maranello Barchetta. He did not get anywhere. Somehow, the conversation got steered towards F1 transmissions. Evereybody had a chance to show off their knowledge, but the older gentleman piped up last. In a slightly southern drawl:
"My race mode ain't worth ****"
What race mode, what car, what are you talking about? -was the follow up from the lunch audience.
"My Enzo has a race mode, and I can't get it to work right"
What did you do when you discovered this? -asked the producer guy
"I called me the factory boys" (I suppose if you buy an Enzo new, you probably have the direct line)
"They said I was not driving it right"
At this point, the producer repeats his earlier question: What did you do when they told you that?
"I got prety steamed up and got me Michael on the horn". At this point, most people (7 at the table, or so) are guessing, but cannot believe what they are hearing.
"Michael tells me he got access to a Marlboro red one, and that the race mode is not really that functional"
Once again, the hollywood type eggs him on. What did you do then?
"So I called the factory boys back and told them I spoke with another one of their employees and what he thought of the race mode"
What was the factory rep response?- asked the same dude
"Expect a software patch in 4 months, Sir !!!!"

I have no idea whether this is true, or not, and I am certainly paraphrasing the dialogue, but it was hillarious at the time, and I think I got it mostly right, even after some wine.... I later found out who the Enzo owner was. Those of you who were there can probably figure it out. It turns out that he drove the Enzo across the state line, and that he even let his wife drive. Apparently, he took a little nap, and when he came to, she was doing 140 mph somewhere on I-5!

You know I was born into an extreemly wealthy family. The biggest differance I see is that I was not given any serious money till I was 30.

I got a free education and about 11K a year from dad which was nice but in no way made me able to buy a Honda let alone take a girl to NY for drinks!!

    Dan,

I am not sure if you are joking or serious. If you are serious, I respectfully disagree with you. I have personal knowledge of 2 F chatters that are those kind of people. I do agree they are too good for us, but they are here to stroke their egos. Anyways, I think you are joking, and your post is more satirical.
