I don't go to movies much, and I won't go if the reviews are terrible unless it's something I'm really interested in. Still, I never went to see "Driven", and I don't intend to watch it on T.V. either. Although it probably isn't the worst movie made, the one I dislike the most is "Midway" which does a wretched job of depicting a historical event. I particularly dislike the way it used (or, rather, mis-used) stock footage from at least a dozen different sources, particularly "Tora Tora Tora" (which was a vastly superior film). And on a similar vein, the recent "Pearl Harbor" movie was just about as bad, and far worse than "Tora....." on the same subject. Someone mentioned the "Iron Eagle" films. I actually like the first one (ludicrous as its plot is) but found the sequels to be pretty bad; even the presence of great WW II aircraft (and Rachel McLish) in the last one couldn't save it. Similarly, I like the original "Airport" but hate all the sequels.
There are just way too many ways a film can be bad to pick a "worst" one. Some films have great potential -- all unrealized. The premise of "Hellboy" got me to watch. Too bad the best they could do was a bad "beauty and the beast" remake. "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" fell into the same category -- could have been a much better story if the creativity hadn't run out after thinking up the concept. Other films with pretty lame concepts are fairly well done. Example: "Curse of the Black Pearl". A silly notion of bringing Disneyland to the big screen was carried by some fine performances, particularly by Geoffrey Rush (Barbosa). For me, it was a bit marred by Johnny Depp as Sparrow -- he's too young for the role. (I've actually been wondering how Patrick Stewart would have been in that role. (Especially that line about "human hair ..... from my back")) "Armegeddon" was typical of Bruce Willis films: A plot so bad that it has nowhere to go but up, so it doesn't look so bad compared to expectations. I've heard Heinlein accused of all sorts of silly allegations by people who think that everything an author produces is his own personal fantasy. But the "Grand Master" wrote things to make people think. This tends to annoy a lot of people who are in the habit of not thinking. Starship Troopers apparently annoyed Verhoffen so much, that he had to make a film testimonial to how much he didn't have a clue about the novel. ---- But, these days, the worst films I've been seeing are .... .... any film replayed on Turner channels. These dweebs absolutely butcher every film they run. Someone want to explain how they just have to whack the entire SD game in "The Replacements" to avoid showing cheerleaders, but can run "erectile disfunction" ads every five seconds? Standards and Practices? Huh?
Any movie with J.Lo, Mariah Carey, Ben Affleck in it, it sucks!...i don't know how awful they can act... Alexander is far the worse movie I have seen...saw through 3 hours of it...and nothing exciting ever happen...it was more like a documentary...blehhh... The Medallion...Jackie Chan is awesome, but the movie just sucks...same with the Tuxedo... Most of the comic book movies blows...with a few exceptions, like spiderman 2
ha! Starship Troopers is one of my all-time favourites. in a period where CGI movies were being pumped out by the bucketload i was SOOOOO skeptical, in the end it was a great fun cornball movie where the CG integration and suspension of disbelief stands the test of time. but what bugs me so much is you get to the credits of a movie that sucked ass (if you make it that far), and it dawns on you that 300-1000 people spent 6 months to 2 years and several million $$$$'s and STILL can't make something that can entertain you for two stinkin hours! how crappy is that?
My boyfriend has a bad habit of recording one-star horror movies. A couple weeks ago he subjected a friend and I to: House of the Dead: based on a video game. Actually used scenes from the video game as transitions between scenes. Darkness Falls- A horror movie where the villian is the ghost of the toothfairy.
Lets see............These are the ones you see folks look at in the movie stores, and wanna smack them in the head to warn them. 1) OpenWater - Ok.......How do you make a "real" movie about two people that died? (unless their camcorder was in the shark at the end). And I'm not to bright to sit there for 2hrs watching two people in one area, floating. (Well for a little while...) 2) The Village - This one almost cost me a TV, after all that time waiting to see a costume on a hook. I was thinking of what too wack the tv with. 3) Solaras - WOW - I'm speechless
"A show of force", "House of the dead", "Blairwitch project", "Alexander", "Corsican brothers", "Jason vs Fredie", all the "Kill Bill" movies, "Dude where is my car", and a lot more
Ballistic: Ecks vs Sever both the Charlie's angels movies the remake of the Italian Job "The one" with Jet Li The Transporter Dude wheres my car? And many, many countless others
''Under the Tuscan Sun" -Great scenery....awful milksoppy script. "Eraserhead" -WTF!! I was forced to watch it for a cinema class in college...I still wake up screaming!!! "Revolution & Author, Author" -what was Al Pacino thinking? "Every film that featured...Barbara Striesand"...no explaination needed here. "The Flintstones" -Only good thing was Hale Berry. "Police Academy 5" -What was "I" thinking?? ...and just about anybody's wedding video (including mine)! They're just too f*ckin log! Edit people..EDIT!!!
OK, I'm in trouble here....I liked Driven. Actually I know it was pretty weak in some ways but I liked two thinks about it: 1-Some creative camera work. I thought they did well at portraying the blur of the press conference, the feeling in the drivers seat, etc.. 2-The most violent crash I have ever seen. You know the one....flying up in the air....silence.....then BASH!!! I thought that part was worth waiting for. Open Water? I read the cover and got what I expected. Didn't you? But ya, it was different. They could have put more into it for sure....like an ending.
Get Carter. Edit, just remembered some more. Titanic, Kazaam, and 50 years of Ferrari. Jurrasic Park 3 get's WORSE ENDING EVER!!!!
Napolean Dynamite is one of those quirky niche movies. It was hilarious to me. I'm suprised nobody mentioned "Nothing But Trouble" (1991) with Chevy Chase, Dan Ackroyd, Demi Moore, and John Candy. I was in high school with a date and fell asleep. I was really disappointed because I liked Chevy Chase from Fletch and the first Vacation movie.
I find myself embarrased on behalf of the producers of "A Knight's Tale". The Brits could have made this film and passed it off as satire. But from Hollyweird, it just looks like they flunked every history course ever offered. (Oh, BTW guys: he's not called "the black prince" until after he dies.)
1) Battlefield Earth - Wasn't so bad though, because my friend and I had a 3 month supply of jokes that literally had us rolling on the ground. 2) Hellboy - I was pumped to see this movie...my friend slept through it, I made myself stay awake to see if the movie suddenly "got good". I should have slept. 3) Suspect Zero - I had enormously high expectations for this movie. Boring. Very boring. Personally, the worst crime a movie can commit is being bored. I can pretty much have a positive outlook on a movie if it keeps my mind working.
