While following the Jessica Lunsford abduction I kept thinking it did not look right and my first thought was that it was the father who did something. I mean how could someone take her right from her room with a dog in there with her? I guess I have just become jaded over the years with so many false stories starting with our own infamous Charles Stuart murdering his pregnant wife here in Boston. After seeing him speak last night about making sure you hug and kiss your kid everyday really bothered me that I thought he did it. To think her body was found just a little over a football fields length away from her house and committed by a sex offender who had a prior history of breaking into to a house and assaulting a young girl, makes you wonder how effective were the police? Or did they think like me at first and put to much emphasis on a family member?

My wife chased these guys for a living for about 13 years for the DOJ. Watched two get executed.

Yes, they ALWAYS look at the family. ALWAYS. Then they look at the neighbors, which is no doubt how this guy got bagged. Thay also run it through VICAP to look for patterns and folks who match the pattern, although I'm not exactly sure how that VICAP thing works. I'm guessing that now with MEgan's law, they check that registry pretty damn quickly too.

A dog in the room doesn't mean protection. Hell, my 175 lb. mastif would probably let you in the house with a smile and a wag of the tail.

Better protection is an alarm system, activated every night, and no kids sleeping in a ground floor bedroom.

Child molestors can't be cured or changed. That's a fact. My opinion, lock them up forever, toss the key, let them hang out together in prison.

Oh, and at least according to my wife, unfortunately they don't really get treated much worse than general population bad guys.

OMG. I'm starting to sound more and more like a Republican.

Well this guy WILL get the death penalty and if for some reason he doesn't FL will have even more Republicans in future elections. As for not being able to change them or cure them means only one solution. Molest a child and automatic castration. Just in case some Liberal judge lets them out someday and also will make sure these sicko's can't even get their rocks off in jail

On this there can be no debate - I hope there aren't still naive bleeding hearts who think that pedophiles can be "rehabilitated".

Actually, I think the best solution is to simply castrate the F*$@ers. Seriously, if he/she commits such a crime more then 2x, why not just go ahead and castrate them?

Well, that or kill them, but the later one is not as (sadly) PC. My solution is civil enough I feel.

    Omar, buddy.

Castration ain't all that PC either.

And will result in other problems, including some serious anger/frustration that will cause other behavioral problems.

So, lock 'em up, toss the key, or, execute them is really the only solution, and , I think that old "Cruel and unusual punishment" thing might get in the way of execution.

Life sentence for first time convictions is really ok in my book. Maybe put them in a special prison full of sex offenders. No cells, just big play pens for them to hang around in. And then, let nature take its course.

That's always the first place you look, unlike here in Boulder. I have learned quite a bit about this since my next door neighbors were the Ramseys. The Boulder police were totally incompetent and allowed destruction of the crime scene, which was the family home. The first thing my then 14 year old son said after a couple of traffic cops wandered across the lawn with their hands in their pockets to talk to us was "Dad, why haven't they taped off the yard and house and kept all these people away?" There were cops wandering all over the place that were obviously not part of the investigation, just curious. The CBI showed up AFTER all the foot traffic from people just wandering around.............to do footprint analysis.
I later encountered a group of detectives outside going up and down the alley looking for evidence......7 days after the murder.

Some folks still think the best place to look in that particular case is mom and/or dad.

While I'm not nessecarily disagreeing with your suggestions, you think execution is both unusual and egregiously cruel, yet a lifetime sentence for a first-time conviction is fair and just?

And further that institutionalised sanctioned abuse is neither cruel or unsual?

Me, I'm for all three, in nessecary order, just gotta wonder at your logic. :)

PPS: you're spot on WRT the castration. The Dick does not a rapist make.

It's so true, but the liberals will continue to support these types of sick, whacked-out psychopaths.

There was a show on Discovery I believe just last week. They showed a convicted child molestor being released. He had a specific amount of time to register as a sex offender, he did not, and was back in jail.

That begs the question, "WHY THE **** IS HE NOT REGISTERED BEFORE HE LEAVES THE JAIL?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

As I heard mentioned years back, all sex offenders that are "free" are required to have different colored license plates.

*cough* Are you referring to a certain someone in Switzerland?

Um, I'm one of those whacked out liberals. most whacked out liberals like myself still know a perv when we see one, and don't support sick psychopaths.
because you have to register in whatever locality you end up in. They're already in VICAP and NCIC, makes 'em easy for locals to nab as necessary.

    ERR... no, don't think so.

and that would be??? Our pal the producer/director?
