Nope not road legal nor had any liscence. I did not probe too much since they were like kind of aloof.... There is only one RHD F40 in the world..original from the factory it was sold by Taylor and Crawford in the UK abt 2 years back....same owner as the CLK-GTR sitting in Singapore .....
oh well.. wonder why the owner's son said they never had anything like that before.. you sure it wasnt some cyber based car store that you went to ?
License plate 308 Gallardo...only one in that unique solid orange shade belongs to NL....in the rubber industry !
Oh...interesting...this shows how long i have been away....i cant imagine him making such a big jump....no doubt he can easily afford it but he was in the past more conservative...oh then again come to think of it he did own a 456 long way back....hmmn interesting 7 year cycle.....then 328....lotus....3200...now a gallardo..interesting choice indeed
I find it totally hilarious that no one here actually asked me how the Gallardo drove/performed on Sepang that day. No one asked how the drive was. No one asked how fast the cars were going down the main straight. No one asked about lines. No one asked about braking zones. Is this what you fellows with your Ferraris (at least some of you) are about nowadays ? Just gossiping and passing snide remarks about how this and that person has this or that and was this or that ? Who gives a #%&@ ? * sorry * small rant over * Just trying in my small way to steer you guys onto what these cars are about.
Best post in this thread in recent history... Also, thanks for the great pics at Sepang pistole! I can never get over how immaculately clean the pits are. Used to race motorbikes over in Zhuhai, and facilities were horrendous. I hear things are much better now though.
the track was wonderful. even after these many years , the upkeep has been fantastic. pit areas were 1st class. track was clean and smooth. the drivers were really enjoying themselves. Alot of 1st time trackers there. So there were the usual spinouts and gravel junkies , earning revenue for the tow-truck. The singapore lotus club appeared to have their track day on the same day as the were loads of singapore reg. elises. Most drivers were just doin' their own pace and learning the lines. Notably fast cars were all Jap race-prep machines (civic and the new Integra R). These cars were really really quick , they could go into corners off-line and still leave you standing still. The Lambo (and all our other sports cars to boot) were left for dust when compared to those JDMs. A most humbling experience and gave me a new found respect for well sorted Jap machinery. Down the main straight , my Fiat Coupe 20VT was pulling , maybe , about 160-170 , not really looking , concentrating on getting a correct line into turn 1 and not over-cooking it. If you're going to track for the 1st time at Sepang , my advise would be for you to go SLOW first couple of laps and observe the faster cars. There are a number of turns there that require intimate knowledge of the lines , some corners require different lines in approach which then switch mid corner. I almost lost it a couple of times. ABS was kicking like crazy. My Yokohama AD07 were superb. Can't ask for more in street tyres. As for lap times , I was not timing any of my runs as really , I was still learning this circuit. Its a very demanding course and requires your brakes and tyres to be up to the job. Nice run.
Great report Pistole! I was there on a bike (Suzuki GSX-R750) back in 1999, and the more prominent memories I have are those of the increasing-radius turn 5, the extreme bumpiness on turn 9, and how much more speed you can carry through turn 12 and 13 than you realise. Oh, and those STRAIGHTS! Whoo-hoo!!! Shifting my weight around to negotiatate turns 1 and 2 was also tiring. If you look at my profile pic, you can see that my size on a motorcycle is a bit... umm... inhibitive? ; ) Glad to hear you had a great time. Look forward to maybe meeting you in Malaysia sometime.
Yes Pistole, perhaps it's best to start another thread. Can you find & post a map of the track with all the details? I've haven't found time to go & I don't think I will till many months later while tied up for work here. I understand the track can be "rented" anytime as long as available right? My friend does it quite often as he owns two race prep. cars in KL just for track purposes. How much does it cost to use/rent the track/pit? per hour/share etc... Did you tweaked your Fiat like suspension etc. I saw quite a few in Europe recently. Are there professional instructors to teach on the track? I would want to go through a proper lesson before engaging.
Alright, I see 5 tight turns there. We wouldn't have a clue on the turn #s you guys are speaking. Maybe a clearer & marked map will be better, got to search on the web. I hear many 360 (unless upgraded brakes & suspension setup) or their drivers can't handle tracks well unless it's a C. Stradale (the standard brake system oveheats!). While most stock Porsches handle tracks better. Is it true? I think a lot boils down to driving experience & I must admit I'm poor, any master around to help?
some times.. A GT3 laps Sepang 2.30s and has been known to do 2.28s (r compounds) An evo8 has done 2.29s. ( r compounds) I have done 2.44s in my GTR33 on street tires. I have also done the same times on my 993RS with street tires. Both times were done with 2 weeks of eachother, so track conditions were relatively same. My times were also recorded with a proper laptimer..no bull**** stop watch crap. Porsches are more suited for track..My US track car is 2004 GT3 and vs my 1995 M3 LTW, the porsche is by far a much better track car out of the box. SFchallenge.. are you the 348 on 2nd ave?
If you ever bump into B L (ex ferrari challenge) he will tell u otherwise...its a very controversal topic expecially in a ferrari forum
Nice to see that this thread is back to life. Sepang's rental is RM5,000-00 per hour. Usually , a club or group will book 3 hours , ie , 9am to 12am. So , thats RM15,000. ( no comment at all about whether this is cheap or expensive , since its all relative ). Banduga ________ Yes, I saw your pic of you on your bike ........ gawd ..... you're my hero already. I've always wanted to get into bikes but I know that I will kill myself .... Yes , there are a number of bends where it has either a reducing angle or worse , multiple apexes. I nearly lost the car on a few of these corners and only after hanging back and observing the quicker cars was I able to , slowly , adapt and learn the lines. Spaing ________ Your mentioning the lap times really got me going there ... in our club, we have a Petronas works driver (drove BTCC season 2004) and we were really hoping that he would be available for the trackday to teach us. Unfortunately , because of his contractual obligations as a works driver, he can't show his face at any race-track save under his team's colours , ie, no way for club events. He mentioned 2.3X times for him in the works Petronas Waja Touring car around Sepang , bloody amazing. We were very lucky to have had him available to take us through the "B" roads from Kota Tinggi - Mersing - Endau - Cherating and back recently and we really , really , had a amazing time. If any of you have done that east-coast drive , you'll remember the roller coaster like roads between Endau and Mersing. We were 4 wheel drifting into blind corners and drop- offs at speeds in excess of 140-150. My most treasured driving experience to date. As for road going Ferraris on Sepang , its always been a touch and go affair. Mid engine , low spin inertia , surplus grunt over grip and 'gentlemen racers' , don't make a good mix. But the Lambo was having fun that day. No race incidents and the conti-car drivers were very civilized , making way and waving on faster traffic. Nice to read good 'car' stuff for a change. Cheers.

Rhomell is his name, and he was driving a friends DC5. If I am not mistaken, he also owns his own track car, and is linked with some KL workshop, that had ties to AMOIL. Cant remember the new name of workshop. Heard it was an amazing event. I was in China, and was unable to go for Sepang Track day. Please post more pics of your event. Thanks
3604 _____ Sorry , but I am not really up to speed with JDM lingo. Is the DC5 you're referring to , the new Integra Type R ? Our track day was on the 16th of April. The cars that were really flying were the pair of Integras and a stripped down older model Civic. I am sure the other members have pics of the Integras running, will try to get them. cheers.
anyways we need to see some laptimes from comparable Ferraris to other cars. like a CS and a GT3... driven by regular folks in their cars...then its a fun comparison.. when you start bringing on Challlenge cars, then look at the Cup cars.. thats just my opinion...
Hmmm I can almost smell the exhaust from the track now. Thank you, Pistole for "starting the engine". Spaing 77, can you offer me rides (if there's a seat!) in your track car next time? Nope, my 348 isn't from 2nd Ave. Is there one there? I know there's one in Katong area, not mine. Nice pic, Badunga. I almost lost my right hand on my bike few months ago & I'm still having phobia when I lean on corners now. I'm still amazed by how Japanese built cars with mostly 4 cylinders engine & a properly set up machine can be such killer on road/track AND for much less $ Looks like tracking can be an extremely costly hobby, toying with brakes, tires etc. BTW, what kind of facility is there? Like tyre shop/workshop/tuning facility there or we have to bring our own tires/tools to fix? I've got a nice article from Forza that tells us in detail how to prep our car for a track event. Yes, I absolutely agree on discussing subjects with realistic street cars/drivers/condition...normal people rather than a professional.
Is it a holiday in Singapore on the 21st of April ? We're meeting up in JB for a run to Endau and back. Leaving JB at about 6.30 - 7.00 am (the projet petrol kiosk after Carrefour). A couple of Coupes and a wayward Elise will be in attendance .... and it'll be QUICK drive. call me (012-7980660) is anyone is interested. cheers.
It would be quite rare to have Ferrari owners in Singapore, going out and out on the race track, there was only one that ever came close to doing that and that was WG (black 355) but now he is mostly in Shanghai and bored with racing. In Singapore, in my opinion, the cars are already costly and bringing it to track for anything more than "cleaning out the engine" would be prohibitive. So end up most so called track days are just social events with the occasional good top end run down the straights... Taking into account that you mostly have to change your tyres, bleed the brake oil, that is even more down time for the owners expecially none of them will entrust their drivers to send the car down to HSM. So then it weighs in again more hassle as they have to do it themsleves...not to mention having to touch-up the front bumper to make the car look pristine again....etcetra Then again its another story for the Porsche club contingent...another story for another day
Ah ha, this is one that I & few owners would agree. Imagine trashing a $500-850K car @ track. Singaporeans are just a bit "kiasu & kiasi". The car would be very difficult to re-sale & @ higher losses. Most buyers freak out when they hear "Oh this car's been on the track...into gravel etc" I've met a buyer who wanted to buy my 348 & to de-register it then turn it into a track car. No more road taxes/insurance & transporting it to Sepang via trailer(quite reasonable charges) overnight while he takes a comfortable SQ flight. (He's been doing it for years on other cars) Makes sense to me. Sorry Pistole, my car's still in workshop.
