I would be wooried this is a copy. I am not an expert, but it does not have the correct comp steering wheel, the safety belts ar sabelt (not omp which I believe was the original supplier). And I agree with the intake plenium. The gt comp had a 119G motor that had a larger intake plenium.

All this could have been changed, but why would you then pay 160K without original pieces.

I bet the dealer could run the vin through FNA and tell right away if this is a true comp.

Based on the s/n's from "The Original Ferrari V8" this car was not one that was developed into a race car at the factory.

The s/n is also in the range of a regular 348ts. The front grill also looks like the early street version.

In the text the pictures of the GT Competizione's had full street interiors. It also had special split rim forged wheels. This one has Challenge wheels.

If this is a copetizione it appears to be heavily modified. If so why would it be worth more than a 348 or 355 CH?

A real 348 Competizione has a carbon fibre front bumper with lip. The eBay car does not.

A real 348 Competizione has the bigger engine. The eBay car does not.

A real 348 Competizione is badged as "GTC". The eBay car is badged as a "TS" (not even "GTS").

    Targa top?!

We're not talking about an SS or Challenge...the 348 Competizione model was European race-only...360hp up to 550hp in those 50+ cars.

The Competizione did use two different sets of wheels, and apparently had some versions with and some versions without the 348 side and rear grates.

The kicker, though...and the most difficult thing to counterfeit would be the F-40 half-shafts. The 348 Competizione has F40 axles going to the rear wheels.

There were 11 or 13 race comp cars out of the 50. "The Original Ferrari V8" book lists there s/n. The others were street versions.

Otherwise every other point made seems valid. I don't think this is a real comp car. So why the 160 K sticker?

Please allow me to correct you on your comments because most are incorrect. 1) you can not tell if the frt bumper is carbon or not and none of the "Street" comp cars, of which there were 50 made, came with any sort of lip on the frt bumper(at least the three I've seen) and none of documentation I have shows it. Both frt and rear bumpers were carbon. 2) The engine size is the same in all 348 versions the only major difference is the plenum size on the later cars ('94/'95) and the exhaust silencer on '93 forward cars. BHP being 300 for early cars 312 for new exhaust cars and 320 for the plenum change. 3) the "street" 348 comp cars all had the rear script "348GT Competizione". However there were 11 Factory "race" comp. cars and 2 348GT/C-LM cars. Are these the cars you are referring to? I don't know if they were badged GTC or not but the 50 Euro "street" comp cars were not. I am not sure if the 11 "race" comp cars came out of (modified)the 50 "street" cars or if they were seperate production run. If they did the 11 cars would have to be heavily modified because the "street" comp cars are somewhat cosmetic in their differencs from the regular 348s. Engine was stock '94, as were brakes, suspension, no roll cage. The major differences were carbon door slats, sills, seats(F-40) and frt and rear bumpers. The steering wheel, enamal badges on the frt fenders and the rear script on the engine lid were also different from the regular cars. They all came with black int. and red cloth seats. There is a different part no. for the doors on the comp. car but no mention as to wheather its carbon or not. 4) The horse power on the "street" comp was not 360 or 500 it was 320. 5) All of the wheels on the factory cars were as pictured in the photo in the above post. And they all had the side panels as the std car had. They were carbon though. 6) As for your "kicker" on the half shaft(axels) the road cars all had the same half shafts. Did I miss something here, how do you know the're F-40 items on this car? The Euro "street" 348 comp. cars were similar in their marketing idea as the US 348SS cars, a limited edition car for different markets one for Euro and one for the US. The marketing was the same, sell a slow moving car at that time. Although the comp. car has cooler parts than the 348SS its still not a ready to go race car. As to wheather this car on ebay is real or not who knows, the engine plenum as I said in an earlier post would be my major question, the roof panel...I don't know, they made 348SS cars that way. Remember this is a road car(348 street comp.) not a true race car. Without looking the car over or getting documentation who knows.

Here's what the Ferrari Club says:

1994 Ferrari 348 GT Competizione (street cars)
This was another car that was not brought to North America. It was a limited edition of fifty (42 LHD, 8 RHD). The car had Speciale paint, split rim Speedline wheels unique to this model, enameled Scuderia Ferrari shields on the front fenders and "348 GT competizione" badging on the rear decklid. Inside, it had red cloth covered Kevlar racing seats (more like Challenge seats than the reclinable buckets in the Speciale), Kevlar sills, drilled aluminum pedals, and a unique steering wheel labeled "348 GT competizione" above the prancing horse, with a set of crossed flags and the number in the series (i.e. 19/50) below.

    1993 348 GT Competizione and 1994 348 GT/C-LM (track cars)
Although it carried the same decklid badging as the later street car above, this car was produced strictly for the track. Eleven GT/C's were built, with one winning the Group 2 title in the 1993 Italian Supercar GT series. Additionally, two GT/C-LM's were developed for the 1994 Le Mans race.

The cars, developed by Michelotto, had carbon fiber bumpers and doors, thin aluminum hood and decklid with carbon fiber stiffeners, a Lexan rear window, gray cloth OMP racing seats, and an FIA-legal roll cage. They tweaked the mostly-stock engine, including a fuel mapping change, to put out 360 bhp. The car also had F40 halfshafts and 15 inch Brembo cross-drilled brakes stopping 18 inch wheels all around, eight inches wide at the front and ten at the rear. Koni racing shocks and progressive-rate springs were installed, and the frame was strengthened. There was a carbon fiber undertray beneath the engine, and brake cooling ducts all around.

To me, I'd read the above as saying that the street version Competizione had the special steering wheel with the number of the series below the prancing horse...while the track cars had the F40 half-shafts.

the "Original Ferrari V8" book list the s/n for the 11 gt comp race cars. This one on e-bay is NOT one of those.

I would again ask why would you pay that much for a street car conveted to a track car (based on pics it does not look street legal in US) when you can get a 348 CH track car for 40-45 K?

This car , ZFFKA36B000096435, is not an original factory competition car. It was modified by Michelotto(one of 2 he did) for an Italian collector (he had it until 2001 when it came to the States). The original owner never intended to race it and it still had climate air.

    Cheers

Well if that is indeed the case, they must have the paper work to prove it.

These are the chassis numbers for the 11 that Michelotto did:

    84248
    95380
    96064
    96547
    97296
    97933
    98226
    98367
    98676
    99107
    99143

Unless it is one of these there is no way I would pay what they are asking for it.

97553 was another chassis. If I'm not mistaken it ran at LeMan. It also has a special shift gate that does not have a slot for reverse. Only the forward five gears.

Yup. The engine in those two were capable of 400-430hp unrestricted. They must have spun them to 10K rpm.

So like I was saying, they should have the paper work to prove Michelotto did the work. Even then the car isn't worth what they are asking.

Hey Andrew, Thanks for the info. That exlpains why the car looks the way it does, having a mixture of the "street" comp. parts and "race" comp. parts (door panels, side windows and head lights) and 355 challenge wheels but, with 1st addition road car plenum and frt grille. If anybody could get the factory parts to make a copy of a factory car it would be Michelotto. By the way how do you know this story. This would be an interesting car considering how it came into existance. Regards, Vern

as an owner of a UK RHD 348 GTC, i shall endeavour to clear up the confusion.

The car pictured in the first post has appeared on this site before, and is a GT Competizione LM Spec 348 TS.

After the 348 run, Ferrari produced 50 cars like mine, the 348 GT Competizione, road car with lightened body panels, speedline wheels, f40 style seats etc. This car was built to homologate the 348 for GT racing. Then came along 11 348 GT Competizione Track Spec GT Cars built purely for racing, but based on the road GTC. During this run, a further 3 cars were prodcued called the 348 GT/C LM, by Michelotto for Le Mans. The car pictured above is a copy of these cars. So is not worth much more than a standard 348 really, except for all the gear thats on it.

I hope i'm right, i remember qerying the guy who owned it at the time about it!

    Hi Vern

Many sources, one of which was actually EBAY in August 2001. It was up for auction not long after going to the states. I'll paste the text of the Auction below.

This car was built specifically for an Italian collector. The car is now located in the US as a “Competition Car”, and is being offered for sale.
It is particularly interesting in that the owner specified to leave a few comfort features (climate control), because he used the car on the streets in Italy, he did not intend to race this car.
This a rare opportunity to own one of only 2 TS Models in the World built by Michelotto in this configuration. All manuals including 348 GT Competition manuals (These include parts, setup information by Michelotto, drawings and dimensions of custom parts built by Michelotto) are included.

Thanks Andrew for taking the time to post. That post ought to be helpful for all that are curious about the car. Looks like the original owner spared no expense. The problem here in the US would trying to use it for a road car(registration, EPA, DOT) and its to nice and too expensive to use as a track car(348 challenge cars being somewhat affordable). Someone is going to have to love 348s to pay what they want for it. Thanks again, Regards, Vern

My 348 is a total tracker. For fun I wanted a 348competizione badge on the decklid. I found one for about 500 bucks or somehting ridiculous like that. For those kinds of prices I could have a batch custom made and sold for more like 20 bucks a piece. I bet if i could read Japanese those guys ahave already copied and made them.
