Count Giovanni Volpi owned a race team utilizing mostly Ferraris. He arranged for a factory direct purchase of a brand new 1961 250 SWB for me in 1961 for the princely sum of $4100. I was 25 years old. That was more than a year's salary for an air force lieutenant. Had to pass. Does that count. Bought my first Ferrari last week. I'm 70.
I am 24. Taking delivery of my F430 in a month. I got my first Ferrari (360 Modena) when I was 19. I also owned a 550 Maranello.
Maybe it's worth starting a poll. I never understood the idea of paying anything but cash for a toy. --Dan
Heh heh. That's the problem when you are young. I went into FoH one day and the guy on the floor didn't even turn his head to acknowledge me....just kept reading whatever website he was looking at and ignored me. I'll have to send him pics one day.
I have bought all my cars cash, no payments, for the 360 I pay under 1K a month and thats because I will sell it shortly.
Our neighbor's son has a 430 coupe in red. He is 17 years old and attends the local prepatory school. He has attended multiple driving school since the age of 15, but that seems like a lot of car for such a young kid. I would be surprised if the car were registered in his own name, but you never know. I was driving a beautiful Firebird at that age and I thought I was the luckiest guy in the world at the time.
i would hope that it belongs to his parents. definately pickin' up the chicks rolling up to school in that though!
43, paid cash. I was wondering when the buyer's remorse will hit when I bought the car. So far, it has been more than two months and I am enjoying the car even more than I ever imagined. I should have bought one sooner...
Here's the breakdown so far give or take: 40+ - 11 30 - 39 - 9 30 - 39(waiters) 5 20 - 29 - 2 20 - 29(waiters) - 4 under 20(?) - 1
I happen to work since the age of 15. I am running (along with my dad) a family business and happen to have succeeded. Simple as that!
Equal split between the 30 and 40+ somethings Seems like the 30 ish group is a strong target. Being more established with the dealers helps the 40+ crowd. Didn't help me much though...............
Interesting replies to the thread. I paid cash for my car too. I wonder if the high cost of living in Silicon Valley contributes to the older age group at FoSV. Not too many .com-ers in their early 20's are hitting it big these days around here. And if they did, they have to shell out the 6-10MM for a statement home first. This was a the topic of an article in the Wall Street Journal last year about Googlers buying up homes in Atherton.
I'm willing to bet that the average owner around here is probably younger than on the east coast, for instance. --Dan PS: darf is so right.
