Nice shot isn't it. Not from me unfortunately ! The scene takes place in 1970 at Monaco, "Black Jack" ( his period surname ) lived a nightmare when he lost the race at the last curve, he went out the track and damaged his car. Rindt won the race and Sir Jack finished 2nd !!! Sadly Rindt was less chancy at Monza that year. Best, Florent
Superb photos, especially the one of Brabham (which must be in practise as IIRC the race was dry?) Bandini is driving the flat-12 in photo #1, photo #2 is the V8 engine of Surtees' car. Paul M
Brabham-Ford (Cosworth), not Lotus. That must have been a practice session because the race itself was run in sunshine. Brabham lost it in the LAST CORNER OF THE LAST LAP. Rindt had been gaining on him steadily over the past few laps in the ancient Lotus 49C and pulled out the last F1 victory for a 49 which was at that point a 3 1/2 year old F1 car.
Let's post some more ... #1 : Hawthorn's and Collins cars making a baby ... I remember the Bandini incident at Monaco. I was very young, F1 was not popular in Ohio, but I was facinated with the Ferraris. Bandini became my favorite. After that incident , I thought that F1 was too dangerous, so I started following NASCAR, then lost my favorite driver there, Fireball Roberts. Those days were very scary in F1. Almost did not know from race to race if there would be a fatality. The final blow was Cevert. Met him at the Glen 6 hr where if I remember correctly he drove a Matra Gitanes. Was shooting in the Tyrrell pits at the USGP when Stewart came in with the news. Took a few years to come back to F1.
And in that photo there's Amon driving past his team mate's burning car. What could have been going through his mind? Nathan
Who knows...Should I stop and help? No...there´s marshals for that. Coming around on the next lap...probably too late. No real answer to that one Nathan. Ronnie...got emidiate help.(but the doctors could not save him). I met Ronnie...and still today I begin to cry...when I think about it. Staffan.
To feel the ambiance of a truly road race. I am in pict# 1 with white shirt. The lady driver ( MC Beaumont ) did smash her Opel GT and had to walk to the pit lane in Cerda, some 6 miles away... Guys, I enjoy all the other pics here, but this IS FerrariChat, so if you are going to post new pictures please try and post those that actually have Ferraris in them or of people that are driving/have driven Ferraris. Thanks! -Jarrett
Very nice thread. Here are some other pictures. It's a 335 S at the Mille Migilia of 1957 with Portago and Nelson and a 312 P during testing. At that time the test the Berlinetta conversion. Kind regards Xander Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
