Did you parked the car in a salt lake for some month? Or how did you get them so rusted? ____________________ Samy
The cost was around £500 for the pair with springs etc. All the parts on the car are rusty !! that is why i am changeing them all. I think one of the past owners had parked it by the sea for a year or 2 ! and not washed it
That seems very reasonable for brand new (they are new, or did I misread and they are rebuilt??) 16 position-adjustable shocks + springs. Please let us know how well they work when you get your 348 back onto the road again, as you may very well be on to something quite positive for the 348 Brotherhood.
The corrosion is definatley not normal, unless you live near beach and drive your car on the beach, through the salt water PJME mentioned 5 posts back that he thinks one of the past owners parked the car by the sea and not washed it for a few years.
some of my thoughts/comments: i love watching someone turn the proverbial sows ear into a silk purse... its great to see someone drove that 348 obviously in rain-salt -mud -battery acid etc. the 78k on the tach will be difficult for resale(and impressive at the same time) , but all the new parts in this thread will help... WTF ? i still cant believe how rough those parts are! my thoughts of- what if- i drove my 348 daily in all sorts of weather for years and years.... 1. id get a hell of alot of props from everyone around...id go down in history-how ballsy-! 'hey-thats the guy who drives his fcar everyday " 2. my car would run great driving it everyday ,no problems - no seal leaking,etc.. 3. at the end of it all if/when i wear out the motor at 120k+ miles , id be able to part out the body/chassis parts to all the saps on fchat ,and have enough to buy a nice garage queen 348 with low miles and start over...plus all the memories of the driving experiences. hmmmmmm.. makes you think , dont it? Ps the red seam stitch is a cool idea , if you used mouse hair, and yes the 348 stitching logo has to go..looks kit car ..sorry.
Hi wow love the work your doing so far, I have a 93 TS, I must say things here in Australia arnt that bad weather wise, so far no rust in mine, only water it see' is from a wash and polish. Loose the stitching apart from looking BAD, its a bit over kill, spend the money on a nice carbon fibre kit Andrew keep the pics going
Fantastic thread... good luck, I cant wait to see the car complete. You will surely have something to be truly proud of.
Hi there all long time no post ! As you can see by the attached photos that my car is having a full bare metal restoration. As you can see i have had 2 new wings fitted and a new front cross member, the old wings i had a repair panel fitted to the lower part but the company doing the work did not like it so asked for 2 new wings. They have taken all the 7+ coats of paint of and started from the base metal. As it stands the car is now in primer and waiting for a few more detail jobs before it goes into paint. Will post some more photos when i get time Enjoy Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you for updating this thread, looks like yours will turn into a good 348, i love the driven F-cars. Your suspension photos remind me of a 4x4 i was fixing up for a friend, it was used to run a long line on a beach daily for about 5 years, salt makes a mess. Keep the photos coming
I commend you for all the hard work you performed on your 348, not many people would go though with it with such great lengths.
Hey Paul, I am bewildered by how much work you have put into this 348... keep up the good work and please let us know how those LEDA shocks work after you've driven it for a while... When do you expect to have the car ready? DF
Thanks for all your comments; I have uploaded more photos of restoration the process. As for the time scale i cannot say as i am at the mercy of the company who is doing the work for me. However i hope it will be finished in the next 4 weeks or so.
