    Guys,

I have a race F40 (not an LM I hasten to add) and would like to upgrade the intercoolers from the stock ones to the larger LM style ones. They are available from Italy for an incredible 15000 euros plus tax! These would be Secon which are well known for being off the scale in price although they are apparently in a class of their own for performance, using sophisticated helicopter engine technology.
Can someone tell me who could supply similar intercoolers at a fraction of the price?
    Many thanks!

The intercoolers on the F40LM are the size of briefcases :)

I think the price of 15K euro may include the carbon kevlar intake shrouding coming from the door intake holes...

If you make a custom set, you should budget for intake shrouding for full effect, but a 90% job could be achieved for 10% cost!

Also, cooling is only ever as good as the air EXIT... so make sure your louvres are up to it too...

    anyway... here's a GTE

Those LM intercoolers are what Im looking for!
Are there any guys out there who have already had a similar pair built for their cars, as the firm could still have the dimensions and connecting ports.

as amenasce said... do you have any specific rules to adhere to?

If not, most custom racing radiator shops could do something for you.

Or, you could contact Sam Li of veloqx motorsport who has an LM GTE in bits (I think it's still in bits)... he "might" loan one out or send dimensions....

I could possibly take those pictured ones off and measure up... PM me

what's fitted currently? if there's no markings on them a picture will allow somebody here to work out what they are.

What other mod's have been done to make it a "race" F40?

Bell intercoler is making a set for me at the moment. They are similar in dimension to the LM coolers. As soon as I get the coolers I will begin making the new air ducts. You will also need to relocate your oil filter, and modify the rear engine bay brace. You will have to relocate your wastegate ala LM to get the required clearance. There is no simple solution to just installing larger coolers, it's a big job. I should have the whole thing completed in the next three months. As a short term solution you might try the aquamist system that Demon Tweeks sells. This system can also be used with the larger coolers.

The car runs with large KKK turbos.
It is the Hartmann F40 shown in the www.ferrariturbo.com web site.
It has some pretty hairy cams, different wastegates and twin exhaust ports rather than the three centre exhausts.I am not particularly taken with the present exhaust arrangement to say the least.
It has variable boost up to a supposed 700+bhp.
It will not be raced again although it did race briefly 10 years ago in the BPR series.
However I would like to fit larger intercoolers to the car.

Yes, I bought the actual car.It needed a major top end rebuild with new cylinderheads, pistons, liners etc!

It was blue when I bought it, as it was resprayed from red by the last owner.Bizarre colour scheme.I am restoring it to its former glory, red.

As you are in the UK, you may want to give CSO Ferrari & Maserati in Chester a call. I'm almost certain they have worked on that exact car in the past. They will be able to set you up.

Haha- good luck with that. Veloqx racing is long defunct.
    # 74045 is no longer in bits I believe.

Larger intercoolers can possible have a negative affect on the vehicals performance. Make sure who ever is building your intercooler is not just looking to fill up extra space, but designs it to work at your boost level. If you go to large you can actually create additional turbo lag.

Not sure if this will help but there was a fellow here in Orlando, I think he was the president of the local Suntrust Bank who had an F40 with upgraded intercoolers. Maybe if you called Ferrari of Central Florida, they would be able to help in some way......

    F40 Pilot,

When did you buy your car? I was talking with a friend of mine in the UK who also has a modified F40... What's the serial number of yours?

I bought the car 2 years ago.
It is the Hartmann F40 as on the www.ferrariturbo.com website which has all its details and spec.

Small world one of our clients has a very similar car just outside Chester, although I have to say we haven't had to crack open his motor yet, just a simple service and inspection followed by a thorough clean up.

Do you have any pics of the motor when it was apart....specifically the damaged heads, were they just too badly warped to repair or had they been skimmed down to below acceptable tolerances?

The heads appear to have been skimmed altho they were not the problem. The low compression was caused by worn piston liners which were replaced.I have the original heads which were replaced as a very expensive precaution!
