So...has anyone consider the choice between getting the 3M protection verus the speedlingerie cover? I'm looking to put one or the other on a black 355.

When I spoke to my local film expert (who put a clear protective film on the still-unchipped windshield of my 328), he recommended against paint film on Ferraris. He said that, at least re the 328 era/previously, Ferrari's paint tends to be damaged when you remove the film from it. Whether the paint quality changed by the time of the 355 I don't know.

You might want to call him & discuss this with him: Sammy Yu, Premier Protective Films, (510) 390-6920.

I was told the same regarding my 328. However I think that if I get the front end resprayed someday using modern paint I may consider the 3M film. On black, you'll have to pay special attention to cleaning the wax buildup from the edge of the film, though.

I have used other car masks/bras, and I wouldn't do it again. There is no way to prevent dust/dirt from getting under it and abrading your paint. Speedlingerie may have solved the flapping problem that cheaper brands can have, but it doesn't take much movement of the material to cause minor scratches. On a black car especially, which is what I had, you'll be buffing the paint every time you wash it -- obviously not a good thing -- to minimize the line of scratches across the hood where the edge of the mask/bra rubs.

Also, over time, the sun will fade the uncovered portion more, so I'd be especially worried about yellow and red cars (which fade most noticeably). Black not so much...

Finally, IMO, even color-coded masks/bras are ugly. The film looks pretty good, even with the seam visible.

Given that black is an easy color to respray, I guess I'd recommend you drive it, deal with a few chips, and respray the front every few years. And don't follow trucks on the freeway! ;)

I'd go with the 3M. I've had it on an Acura (daily driver) for two years and it has held up, and done its job of protecting the paint nicely. I don't think I'd put it on an older Ferrari as my understanding is the older cars have lacquer paint jobs which are more fragile than today's newer technology. I think a 355 would be modern enough to try it but perhaps one of the experts on the board could comment on this.

It sounds like someone has had success in putting Clear Bra on glass. Can you please elaborate? There are varying thicknesses to choose from, which one was it?

    Thank you

I thought about it before and when I spoke to my 3M applicator about it, he said it won't last. When the wipers are used a few times, the material will scratch and visibility will be poor.

I looked into the speedline stuff and I thought it was way overpriced. It also is not as good for paint protection. The color match is good but not as good as the film. I would pass on it.
