Don't worry at least you have one.

If you saw the Mike Sheehan (broker) newsletter this week he is looking for 3 dino 246 GT cars. Market forces seem strongly upward.

Nothing the $120K can't fix. Just amortize it over 20 years and make it great. Enjoy the journey.

The wheels look like they came off of a clown car. What are they? Also, the photo makes the rears look more dished than the fronts. Are they?

Will have to check the chassis number, can't remember what it is. The wheels came off a 328 racer he used to won I think, some form of Gotti split rim if I recall, the originals wheels are safely stashed away from getting damaged. They are more dished at the rear than the front. I have some more pictures of them somewhere?!?!?!?
He is looking to sell his other Dino in the near future, he has owned it for 20 years and it also has a racing pedigree, needs a few tweaks before sale but nothing huge.
Car is going to be dip stripped rather than blasted, there would be nothing left of it if it was I think.
Will get some pics of the other Dino,

I like the wheels as a driving pair, Gotti's were all the rage in the 80's. Since you have the flares option I assume you have the original Campagnolo wheels with "Dino" script in that stashed storage, right?
Lucky you, Tom Shaughnessy just sold a set of 4 for $3k USD.

For some reason I also like the shields on the fenders, I don't know why.

When I was looking for a 246 some time ago, I was told by a well-known classic Ferrari dealer, that there were no chairs-and-flares GTs, only GTSs. For some time, I've labored under that impression and indeed have only seen C&F GTSs. If this is indeed a C&F GT, then I was misled.

i know of no us spec chairs and flairs coupe. keep in mind the chairs option didn't become available until late 72. the flairs option was available starting in mid/late 72. usa spec cars weren't really common until the series three or "e" series dino. with this being the case, very few dino's had both options. most usa cars that exist today with these options aren't factory original. let's face it, if you were to re-upholster an interior, would you not put in the daytona style chairs?

as for cars from other markets, the flares on coupes was very popular in the uk. i wouldn't be surprised if euro coupes exist with both options.

Maranello Concessionairs retrofitted a few cars with chairs and flares, maybe they did it order on new cars as well. Would that make them official chairs and flares cars?

When I bought my chairs & flares GTS (#05828, now in NYC) many years ago, I was specifically looking for a factory-original car and spent quite a while researching the subject. I don't know as I'd go so far as to say that "most" US cars with both chairs & flares aren't original, but certainly many cars had Daytona inserts added later (and some of those flared fenders aren't original either). FWIW, although the seats & flares were separate options, I've only ever seen one US car (a white GTS) that had factory flares with standard seats. As for coupes, yes, the flares were more popular in the UK, but there were Euro coupes with flares and perhaps a VERY few US cars too (I vaguely recall a red one in Colorado years ago- at least I think it was a US version).

Yep, have the correct wheels stashed away, they are in very good condition too which is nice. The car is a UK spec one, I will get the serial numbers over the weekend possibly. It is a genuine car with full history from new which is also good. My buddy has owned it since 1987 and it has been off the road for nearly 8 years now. The Daytona spec seats are also in excellent condition with just a small bit of bolster scuffing to sort out. The rest of the interior is also pretty good, pity the same can't be said for the bodywork!
I think there was 33 UK spec Dinos done with both Flairs and Chairs?
I am also in the UK although I have never seen another one here!

Al, mine (07528) is a UK GTS supplied new with flares but standard seats and is one of approximately 11 flared arch GTS cars supplied new to the UK.
    Regards GP.

Back in '73, when my dad started getting serious about buying a Dino, I remember looking at a Ch.&Fl. car in H.R. Owen's London showroom. A long time ago, obviously, but I was pretty impressed! My recollection is that it was a silver GTS. We ended up getting the standard Verde Germoglio GTS (#07412) that we still have today.

Alternately, my car, a late '72, shipped from the factory with no flairs, but it did have Daytona style seats. They were blue originally.

Yes, there were a lot of cars with the Daytona seats but no flares, but almost all of the flared-fender cars were pretty loaded with options. I'll bet the seats looked nice in blue- pretty rare.

Car left the factory with white paint, blue seats and red carpet. not so sure they looked all that great originally in that interesting color combo.

By the time I got the car they had been dyed black, and were shot. try as I might to revive them, it was no good.

They are in the competent hand of a fellow fchatter now. Maybe he'll find someone to fix them. Probably only cost twice what my replacement Daytonas did.

Hi all, chassis details fo the cars are 01500 for the early one in good condition.
The Chairs and Flares is 06996.
01500 was apparently an ex race car. It was raced in the Maranello Challenge series and was a lap record setter at Donnington Park, would be interested to find out more about that. It has a DK Engineering engine in it now which is quite "fruity". Managed to get it running a bit better, middle carb had some crud in the main air jet. Now running on 6, just need to set up the sync now. Tuesday nights job!

Started pulling the 06996 car to pieces today, did not take long for the interior to come out, would have got further if I had not forgotten my hacksaw and drill!!! All interior out apart from the dashboard which would have come out for one of the side screws not wanting to budge! Front and rear windscreens all out as well, passenger side door is a real mess, there is nothing left of the bottom at all. Will be a challenge to rebuild that. Both wings are also well gone. NIce bit of the original colour inside the cabin at the back!
Some pics of todays work below!
